Social Sex Addiction... Is it real?

Well addiction according to NIH is: not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you. It probably isn't harmful to non-cheaters (unless they get an STD or some crap). For cheaters it becomes a problem because it now affects their relationship.
I certainly believe it exists, but like many now common ailments, I think this one is misdiagnosed or self diagnosed and used as an excuse to justify someone getting caught being unfaithful.

same goes for ED, I believe it's mostly men who are sick of fucking their wife.

I am addicted to sherdog. I hate this place it has been ruined but i keep coming back for the next high

Sure, why not. Anything enjoyable these days gets labeled as addictive because a small group of people with no willpower can't control themselves.
This. There are anomalies. But for the most part, I would bet that anyone labeled a sex addict could control their urges by whacking it

It's not really the sex people are addicted to, it's the attention, power/control and the ego boost that goes along with seducing somebody.

It's no wonder so many celebrities claim to be afflicted, self obsessed narcissists that they are.

I was once interviewed on the local news and the female reporter afterwards went hard after me. Like a dog on heat! I was attached at th time so couldn't rack up that pub story (and no cheating wasnt an option, my ex was a psycho), but it amazed me how blatant she was.

No it's the sex.

(Also none of that happened)

Lmao at asking this on sherdog. It's actually a much more complex topic.
What is exactly an addiction in itself is heavily debated in the psychiatric community, especially when it comes to addiction without a physical addiction component.
This is really a topic to be discussed properly by doctors/PhDs.

Personally I have no idea. I think lots of these "disorders" (as mentioned in OP when a celebrity engages in sex with a person) are not necessarily disorders, so much as they are breaking the rules of society.

Fact is that many males have a high sex drive, and many are not able to control it. Leading to mistakes in life.
Is it a disorder or is it just the body working normally, just your environment not being able to satisfy you?

I mean for thousands of years, males solved this problem thanks to the Church & marriage, aka ability (God given rule) to plow your lawful wife whenever you wanted to.
It worked. Now with the legions of single frustrated men, you have the appearance of "sex addiction".

sure. you can be addicted to all kinds of shit. i'd say being addicted to sex is one of the better addictions to have

Addictions are all choices at the end of the day sir.

To some degree sure.

There is a difference between compulsive behavior and a substance abuse disorder, both of which are interchangeably called addictions by the layperson and they obviously function different from each other.

Definitely there is a choice in everything you do, but there are real neurological differences that separate a casual from the addict. With repeated large dopamine responses it literally rewires your brain to put that desire in the same area where your primal needs like breathing and drinking water are.

So it literally turns into as much of a choice as you or I choosing to breath can be. Their brain chemistry has changed significantly enough to tell them they NEED that thing they are addicted to. So yeah imagine choosing not to breath and that's very similar to how their brain is talking to them about that thing they are addicted to.

There are real mental health issues under the hood with addicts and for sure they are partially responsible for their situation but it doesn't help anyone to just blame them for their problems and ignore it. They need help and compassion to change their lives.

To call it a choice is misguided/ignorant. The mind can be enslaved and to the external people, it can look like a problem of choice, but in fact that person has very little choice as the neurotransmitters have been wired a certain way by addiction. If it were a choice, rehab & detox centers would not be a thing. I might add that some of the most addictive substances in society are normalised and not openly discussed as drugs, such as caffeine, sugar, pornography/sex, etc.

Let me quiz most people on here: Do you have a choice to not drink your coffee/energy drink/etc in the morning?
Yes you do. But you also don't. Because your brain is so wired by this cup of black coffee in the morning that it's making you feel like shit if you don't drink it.
That's addiction. You wouldn't believe how many people would get angry or even violent if you refuse them their morning routine/coffee/etc.

I mean there are a ton of people who are addicted to porn at this point. They sneak in porn all throughout the day - at work, in the bathroom, etc. It seems somewhat reasonable that a celebrity with high access to women (groupies, friends with benefits, money for high end escorts, etc.) could probably get addicted to sex.

It's almost like you didn't read a single fucking thing in my post.

For sure they are increasing desire as is the sexualisation of society & women.
But its difficult to say whether it's a textbook addiction.

Though internet porn addiction is a separate topic than sex addiction and its very possible to be addicted to the former due to easy access.
