HOUSTON, Texas — An “active shooter” injured “several” people in Houston before being shot by area police near a shopping center Monday morning, officials say.
The Houston Police Department responded to an “active shooter situation” at a shopping center near Weslayan and Bissonnet streets, according to an
emergency alert sent by the city at 8:12 a.m.
“At this time, the shooting scene is believed to be contained,” the alert stated.
Area residents were still asked to “please avoid the area … as it is still an active response and investigation scene.”
Houston police retweeted the alert, and within 20 minutes confirmed an “active shooter” had been shot.
“Several” people were injured by the shooter, and have been transported to an area hospital in unknown condition, police tweeted.
Local media reported seven people may have been injured during the incident, but Houston police say the number of people injured remains unclear.
Police do not believe there are any outstanding shooters.
