During pay-per-views and sometimes even televised events the forum is basically crippled by the load resulting from the increased traffic. I realize this is nothing new but with the ever increasing mainstream growth of the sport, the time has come to solve this problem.

Alot of people I know that browse these forums regularly simply don't even bother trying to read sherdog.net during PPVs because they have come to expect the poor viewability.

Now I realize that spending a large amount of money for a server upgrade or addition is simply unrealistic considering the problem only arises on a semi-regular basis. Never the less some kind of solution is needed because it is costing the board good members and giving the site's reputation a blackeye.

Thanks for your time.

We could up the cost of Platnium Memberships....?

or increase the adds to the site which help pay for the bandwidth, which is raped when you have a PPV going on and a billion people are trying to read PbP.

What do you suggest?

Thank you. We are well aware of the problem and there is no solution besides getting more servers. I just ordered another one that will be installed this week (making five servers total that run sherdog.net).

Increasing the cost of platinum memberships wouldn't be a bad idea. The current rates are extremely cheap in my opinion and I wouldn't mind paying extra.

The ads are already out of control according to most users so I don't think that would be received very well.

As for technical solutions, i'm not at all familiar with sherdog.net's server allocation or vbulletin itself for that matter so offering up suggestions is difficult. Perhaps trying to isolate specific sections such as the spoiler forum via server/database partitions could atleast confine the problem to one section and leave the rest of the forum relatively unaffected.

I didn't mean this thread as a complaint. I just wanted to add to the awareness of the problem and maybe help figure out some possible solutions.

The problem with increasing the cost is that there are already people complaining about the adds and problems associated with the adds who are not willing to buy a platnium membership to sort the problem out.

So increasing the price really won't do alot of good I don't think :(

How about instead of banning members you send them adds. That seems fair.
