Well, surgery day is upon me. Going to hospital in the next hour to fix my mangled septum. Not excited for the recovery lol.

Wish me luck.

Inverse, your friendly neighborhood mod.

Good luck. Deviated septum? How long is recovery?
Thanks! Yep, deviated septum and I'm meant to take 2 weeks off uni but doing physical stuff is around a month or so. :(

I shouldn't have watched this, lol.

Ouch. I've heard it's bloody. I have a deviated septum, but they haven't suggested surgery.

What are the benefits? Just better breathing in general? Less sinus infections?

And why the long recovery? Lots of bleeding? Facial bruising (like you got your nose broken)?

Anyway, good luck again. Hopefully it doesn't suck as bad as expected.

I'm pretty sure i have a deviated septum.

When i was in 5th grade i took a line drive to my orbital and fractured it. I wish i still had the video of what it looked like, cause it was fucking nuts at its worst.

As a result my face is completely asymmetrical, my nose is fairly crooked, and i only have one functioning nostril at any given moment.

What caused yours to become deviated? How is your nose breathing? I got mine messed up through a few blows to the nose on separate occasions, didn't actually know it had been broken though. I thought I had nasal polyps for a few years.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure why the recovery is so long. I know that obviously one of the reasons is avoiding in infection but I hear the swelling isn't too bad, nothing like a rhinoplasty. Bleeding is present for a few days though. I know there will be a lot of gunk up my nose after the op as well for a while and you need to clean that out daily I think.

I've only had a quick run down so far, hopefully the nurses/ docs today inform me some more :D

But meh, I'm expecting recovery to be very crappy.

EDIT:

Oops, forgot about the benefits bit. Well, improved breathing is the main one - can't wait for that bit :D but it will stop the post nasal drip I have too, which in turn gives me a cough. (hopefully)

Defo sounds like you have a deviated septum and/ or other old nose fractures. I'm getting my surgery many years after the break, so you can too. I take it you've not got it diagnosed yet?

If you do get it fixed your breathing ability will increase a lot. My nose breathing is dreaful 90% of the time/

Yeah never diagnosed. You would think improved breathing would be at the top of my to do list, but I'm so used to it that it takes something like a septoplasty thread to remind me that i have it.

It's been 20 years exactly.

Well, its never too late. Mines got damaged in 2011. Not quite 20 years though :p

I've always wondered if I've got a deviated septum. I only ever seem to breathe out of one side or the other, but not both at once. It's a little asymmetrical like one side has collapsed a bit. It's never really bothered me much but I sometimes wonder if it's fixable. I wonder if breathing out of both nostrils would physically feel better. It's been like this for like 15 years so I don't really know any different.

It's gotta be like eating pizza for the first time. I've been imagining it for the last 15 minutes.

Hmm.... makes you wonder. Maybe I should look into it. If I didn't know pizza existed I wouldn't know what I was missing and subsequently would give no fucks.

But taking that first bite if I ever came across it would be sweet.

how much yayo? K? ..?

I don't even know what caused mine. I've never had a broken nose or any trauma to my nose. But maybe mine isn't as severe as others.

I had my nose straitened about 16 years ago, it wasn't fun, but I'm sure the procedure by now is easier with today's technology.

The worse part is when they have your nose "packed", besides that they used laser to trim the turbinates, I remember smelling burnt flesh for about a month following. Between hockey and fighting I'd had my nose busted about 6 times, broke it after the surgery playing soccer. That sucked and it's a little crooked now, but not nearly as bad as pre operation.

Good luck, take your meds, and remember being a mouth breather is only temporary...lol.

I got my nose job done a few years ago. Felt like I'd been hit by a freight train when I woke up after surgery. Good luck ;)

tell me how it feels after your doctor pulls out the plastic tab in two weeks...I bet you will cry like a baby...
