1. Self defense application (where a lot of folks initially learn the throw; very intuitive)
   
   
2. Sport application (drop seoi; more practicable 90% of the time, especially as you start getting good at the throw)
   
   
3. What to do on the ground when you screw up

Works great in no gi when someone is glueing their collar tie to you hard and won't let it up.
