What are the most proven kicking techniques in freestyle fighting settings? The main priority is to not get taken down/leg grabbed, and realistically connect the target.

I would say quick front kicks and oblique kicks.

Freestyle? As in MMA?

A proper set up headkick. Actually, all kicks should be set up anyways.

I find leg kicks when opponent is backing up lands cleanly and rarely gets caught. Same goes for a headkick.

No such thing as a proven kick. All great kicks are set up.

Don't you feel exposed if a head kick fails and hits the shoulder? The harder you kick, the more difficult your transition game is, no?

Some guys aim for the shoulder to hit the head...
