What gives with the search function I try to search for bj penn for instance and it doesn't work because bj is under the 3 letter requirement?!

It's what happens. Just try Penn, but it'd be a lot easier than having to and someone searching "is" and bringing up every single thread possible. Having three makes it so that it's at least somewhat specified.
