Sean O'Malley is NOT a Star.

He himself said he was gonna be the next Conor McGregor, you asked.

How does that affect your baseline for what a star is? So because O'Malley said that, that means the baseline for every fighter being a star is McGregor level lol? Makes no sense.

What if O'Malley didn't say that? Then what would your threshold be?

I don't think he's as big of a draw as he thinks he is. His biggest issue (outside of a personality as exciting as watching paint dry) is he's basically fighting a buncha midgets.

Show some respect man. These are highly skilled midgets. And when did clown hair stop being the sign of a true superstar?

Age range might play a huge factor too, he has 4.3M on instagram, that would count as being popular, just not with the right crowd.
Exactly. 12 year olds usually aren’t able to afford to buy ppvs.

Sean is 30 YO, he's not undefeated and he fights at a lower weight class. He's a few fights away from not being able to finish a punching bag like Moutinho.

He did great lately, but I can understand why he's not a star and IMO he has a very short window to become one.

Not a star? What's your criteria for someone being a star?

Short window? How long of a window do you think you need and how much of a window does he have?

I wonder if his fanbase are specifically 'non-purchasers'

I assume weed smokers and gamers would not really buy ppvs. Stoners - too broke. Gamers - gonna cop a stream. (I am making broad assumptions here)

You think they get numbers for illegal streams? That would be a really interesting thing to know.
why would everyone who smokes weed be attracted to a certain fighter? do you like everyone whos an alcoholic or has the same favorite color as you? very arbitrary factor

lol right like oh he fights at bantamweight? That’s your same weight class you guys should be best friends (and then use it to try and hold up the division)

He's definitely popular with the younger crowd but they probably don't pay for pay-per-views anyway. Conor McGregor has an all-around better viewership demographic. And I know people call him a clown with his haircut and all but they aren't necessarily wrong. It's going to be a lot harder for a 40-year-old blue collar worker to resonate with him.

Yes I do think he's an exciting fighter and he gets a lot of unwarranted hate.

Resonate can be a negative trigger too.

So in a way O’Malley does resonate with almost everyone. Most people either like him cause he’s a good disciplined fighter and good person, and the haters resonate because they cry about his hair and other things.

It’s all good for his business. As we know if they tune in to see you lose they still tuned in.

The funniest is the haters on here trying to convince themselves Omalley isn’t a star when he’s one of the most popular fighters in the entire world and they’ll all be tuning in to watch him fight this week.

There aren't many stars in the UFC but Sean can grow into one. Ryan Garcia was calling him out for a MMA fight. Sean is probably more popular than previous champs in that division. Look at previous champs in the division. They don't really headline cards. They tend to be co-main but still before the final fight. Once in a while you get main events like Cejudo's comeback or TJ vs Necktats. The UFC obviously believes in this guy since they gave him two headliners in a row.

I think he is going to end up somewhere around Max's popularity/selling-power. Higher than some of the other champs but less than guys like Israel. Sean has a huge internet presence but those guys tend to be on the younger side. I don't know how that translates to PPV buys.

He’s basically already as popular as max. In way less time too.

At this rate O’Malley will surpass Izzy and Holloway easily. But who knows what’ll happen. It’s a pretty volatile sport.

I think he just needs a viral moment or some sort of rivalry. Popularity is an odd thing. I still don't understand how Masvidal became a "superstar".

Masvidal let his hair grow out so he looked more marketable. But then he flatlined Till, and then super flatlined Askren which was one of the most viral knockouts in UFC history. And then still even after that he got the BMF fight and won that. So it makes sense he’s a superstar then.

He has a big fanbase.... Problem is the majority of his fanbase are the Tiktok young Gen Z people so they're either overwhelmingly illegally streaming or those lil bois too broke to buy PPVs

Important update for this thread haha

For all you clownin ass fools <Moves>

What a fucking clown.

I hate him so much. This is why he’ll never be a star. He’s such a trash human being. He’s also stupid. And he’ll never win the title.
