Media Sean O'Malley and his coach admit they are not good enough, fans are divided.

I think they did the best they could with the time they had. Sean can probably move to 145. It is more of a striker's division but there is a blanket that might get a title shot. If Max returns to 45 with a win over DP and the BMF title then they can make one of those matchups that will sell tickets.

Should have ran forward right onto takedowns from a guy who doesn't get tired?

I don't know what people expected Suga to do. He has reach and that was about it. He wasn't going to have any chance to use that if he went forward on the attack.

I thought his plan was the right one. Nothing was probably going to work anyway, but at least it gave him a shot to try and land something coming in. I think having the cage to work with was probably better than not as well. In space Merab would have just ran right over him.
yes, because merab doesn't know how to fight running backwards

Why is no one saying the obvious? I don’t think O’Malley takes his career serious, quitting weed, social media and jerking off? is taking your career serious? come on.

How bout bring in fighters and specific training partners to mimic and improve your skill set to your opponents? From the lead up to this bout you heard no rumblings of training partners or any sign or talks of improving O’Malleys weakness. It was figured out over a decade ago, champions like GSP brought in variety of training partners throughout his career to improve on his weaknesses.

I feel like Sean's problem is he just isn't in the right weight class. Merab is obviously really good but with OMalley I just don't like his frame at 135. He's a twig and I think he is lucky he even won a belt. 145 would be really interesting if he could take the time to properly bulk up and fight there.

"Bulk up" for 145? He's already built like a FW, same with Sandhagen.

If Sean puts on 15 lbs of muscle and moves to FW how does he get past Movsar? I guess the UFC have been keeping Evloev away from the title picture extremely proactively.

Evloev barely beat Aljamain.

Its not the "style" exactly. Its also the fact that these guys tend to pick up combat sports and competing much much younger than Western guys and are around Olympic level guys from young ages. Beyond that, in the Caucasus, Russia and Central Asia if you're talented at sport or martial arts you tend to go to school for it and focus on it as a priority and lifestyle, again very different from the US, Latin America, Western Europe etc.

Sean started training late and lacks the background, body type and kind of athleticism for standing up to this style too. Its just different and the UFC and boxing go to great extents to keep these guys down and prop up Americans, Brits and Latinos.
What do you think about a rematch between Alex and Ankaalev tho? Plays the same as Sugar vs Merab or would that be likely different?

why hasnt Sean gone up in weight class anyways ? Dude is taller than Islam, much taller than Illia

I think Merab tosses Sandhagen just as easily as he did O'Malley.
I think so too. But I think Sandhagen has a tricky enough guard to keep Merab honest.

I like hearing that sort of honest analysis/self-reflection from fighters. At least he’s not being delusional, he has nothing for Merab.

On their own platform is admirable yes. Doing it on one of Dana’s sugar babies’ YouTube channels is a bit different

While that’s true, it’s also about the proficiency in an aggressive, forward moving wrestling / grappling base.

But yeah if Sean had Gordon Ryan level jiujitsu he was training since birth, he’d do better.

Caucasus wrestlers have mastered the takedown, to dominant position, to submission style perfectly.

Their style of training makes them athletic strikers as well, they can generate a shit load of force from the ground up.

at 145lb the same shit will happen vs Evloev. O'Malley and his camp are dumb. why run backwards vs a fucking guy who ONLY moves forward? the way you beat Merab is meet him not run from him. meet him, and ATTACK him and use his aggression to walk him into strikes. everyone always acts shocked when somebody keeps dominating even though we seen these styles before, remember Cain? everyone thought he was unstoppable, his cardio is insane blah blah blah. what nobody noticed is, NOBODY HITS HIM. Kongo threw 4 punches and dropped him 4 times. nobody picked up on "his defense sucks, let him walk forward and boop him when he inevitably walks in the front door" everyone is so busy making gameplans around DEFENSE when they should be gameplanning on beat his fucking ass because that is what is going to kill his cardio, make him hesitant to walk forward, and if he doesn't hesitate to walk forward he will just eat ALL THE STRIKES.

knee him in the jaw, don't worry Sand man knows how to deal with these 5'5 guys, like he did with our great champion Frank.
I think this is the key too, for Corey or any striker similar. You have to hit him with knees or a well placed kick to really have a chance. But I do think Corey has better grappling than Sean too which can help keep the fight standing or get back to his feet.

Its Sambo not wrestling. Merab has a Judo background by the way, to a lesser extent wrestling. Combat Sambo teaches takedowns over striking, takedowns score in Sambo but striking doesn't unless you drop the guy. And they focus more on control than submission. But its still an open space, free form combat sport with striking and submissions, it's just super different than MMA due to how its scored and how guys compete....you could never be an elite striker and do well in Combat Sambo even with Aldo level takedown defense, but a guy like Shamil Musaev shreds Dagestani wrestler/Sambo guy one after another in MMA. A lot of elite freestyle wrestlers don't do well, even Russian ones. Its Sambo but more than that its the culture and beginning from a much earlier age.

He brought in might mouse

Dude who put a bunch of money on Sean needs to go back to pre school. Its insane we have such morons running around.
What a fucking tard, even more so because he gets on camera and admits it.

Absolute waste of space and worse still he probably only bet like $50 hahaha.
