News Sean O’Malley to have hip surgery

All jokes aside it's very unfortunate to come into a fight injured. Not only can you not perform well but fans can't help but wonder if it would've been a lot more competitive. I still think it would have been a terrible matchup for him regardless

The 29-year-old suffered a torn labrum in his hip 10 weeks ago but managed the injury through a fight camp to take on Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306 on Saturday in Las Vegas. O'Malley (18-2) lost his 135-pound title to Dvalishvili via unanimous decision. He will undergo surgery during the first week of October and said his Octagon return could be delayed to anywhere from six months to one year.
No wonder he was going down easier than @AldoStillGoat on Merab. <{shaqs}>

If that is true, thats crazy to fight an elite wrestler like Merab with a torn labrum, as much as I hate when big events fall through, this was one where he should have pulled out.

He was plodding for a lot of the fight and even when he had Merab almost barfing from those teeps to the stomach, he was just plodding with no urgency as time ran out.

Was it because he couldn't really rush with that injury? Even if healthy, I think Merab beats him, but a torn labrum is fucking brutal to have while having to wrestle a beast like Merab.

Do these guys have no requirements to disclose injuries?

That's actually a pretty painful injury. Labrums have poor blood supply and don't heal on their own if you've tore it from the bone or have a full thickness tear in the middle.

He did look less mobile and not as quick.

I think O'Malley recognizes that he was outmatched, and that his loss was not because of his injury. He said he was outmuscled and that Merab was excellent and the better fighter. I don't know else people want from him. He doesn't use his injury as an excuse or way of deluding himself.

Compare: Conor who thinks he was winning before Poirier busted him up, or that the fight with Khabib was competitive and he had an injured foot...

Seems hurt all the time. Two different fights he's had leg trouble. And he went into the Aljo fight with some sort of back issue as well.
