Welterweight: Greatest MMA Grapplers?

Welterweight is notorious for having a history of great grapplers, but has there ever been a grappler as complete as Sean Brady since GSP?

  • Belal, Usman, Colby - Elite wrestlers, but lack the level of BJJ that Brady possesses, reflected in their lack of finishes on the ground.
  • Burns, Maia - Elite BJJ, lacking in wrestling ability relative to Brady, reflected in their inability to decide where the fight takes place.
  • Khamzat - Elite wrestling + BJJ, 170 run is too inconclusive to be in this discussion.

He did a fine job getting rid of Peon Shmedwards😴

I underestimated him, he's definitely up there. I would say that mid career Maia had wrestling up there with Brady though, Maia pretty much took everyone down except for really strong wrestlers, and when Brady went against Belal he similarly got completely shut down.

Could argue belal is the better grappler …. Brady couldn’t take him down

Brady is the far superior submission threat … but belal appears to be the better wrestler …

GSP got kimura’d by Hughes. Anderson got herl hooked by Chonan. Jon got reverse ko’d from elbowing Hamil’s head. Shit happens. People get better.

Sean is only 32, and he looked better tonight than he ever has in the biggest fight of his career. Solidly in his prime imo. Still behind Shavvy though, and could get trumped again if Islam moves up. Belal could very well be on the decline next time (if) they meet up again. I like Sean’s chances in that rematch.

Welcome to Brady era.
