I just learned (from google a second ago) that natural gas doesn't contain CO, just burning it releases the CO. We have CO detector on both floors of our house, but probably should get the gas detectorI replaced a propane furnace DIY recently at my current home, lol. My old House developed a severe leak in a union in a copper line. The odor of the Mercaptan was intollerable before we had explosive levels of gas.
An explosive gas/CO detector is under $50. If You have LP/NG there really isn't an excuse for not having one.
