Rather Fuqua do a Freeway Rick story instead.Antoine Fuqua in Talks to Direct New SCARFACE for Universal
Antoine Fuqua's Western The Magnificent Seven is set to open the Toronto International Film Festival, and the director may soon be trading in cowboys for gangsters. Fuqua is currently in talks to direct a new take on Scarface for Universal.
Howard Hawks directed the original, Chicago-set Scarface in 1932, which was re-imagined by Brian De Palma in 1983, with a story set in the Miami drug trade that famously starred Al Pacino in the lead role of Tony Montana.
Straight Outta Compton scribe Jonathan Herman wrote the most recent draft of the project. Donnie Brasco screenwriter Paul Attanasio and Suicide Squad helmer David Ayer wrote previous versions of the script.
Fuqua is currently attached to direct Jake Gyllenhaal in the biopic The Man Who Made It Snow. On the TV front, he is acting as the executive producer on CBS' Training Day TV series, which is based on his 2001 crime thriller; he also recently received a 10-episode straight-to-series order from AT&T Audience Network for his diamond drama Ice.

"Scarface" with Pacino was itself a remake. Just saying. It did become a classic, more that that, though. Why, why, why do they keep remaking classics that don't need to be remade? If a studio tries to remake Taxi Driver or The Deer Hunter that will be my breaking point. Riots and carnage will ensue.
