Not a knock on Conor, but does he not actually train with Gunnar? I see them working on movement with Ido, but I think Conor should be bleeding Nelson of all his knowledge and skill when it comes to BJJ. Gunnar has typically wins by submission and Conor has only ever lost by sub. Shouldn't there be some kind of trading of knowledge and skill?

On the money with this observation, you would think Gunnar would be pressing down on Conor in camps, unless they pulling up on him? He should be a little more comfortable looking on the ground, then again Nate Diaz is not a guy you want to be under.

Maybe Nate is better than Gunnar on the ground or just a better fighter?

You get the feeling that Conor hasn't embraced the ground game like he has the striking...

There's no maybe there my friend...

I think Gunnar could beat Nate at WW. He could grapple fuck him but I don't think he would finish Nate.

Of course he is!!!!! Conor is a striker, he loves to strike.

Getting subbed by NATE DIAZ after getting nearly KTFO, doesn't suggest his BJJ is terrible. Even Nate Diaz stood up for Conor's BJJ post fight.

It's insulting toward Diaz to suggest the only reason Nate got a sub is because McGregor isn't good. Conor's BJJ is good, Diaz is just veteran. Caesar BJJ black belt who spar with Andre Ward? Fuuuuck.

I would agree, to beat Nate you got to ruff house him with stiff kicks or muscle up like Rory & RDA.

The whole gym needs to move and transform into SBG Iceland. Steady diet of sheepshead and rotten shark every day, cold weather year round, doing roadwork in a volcanic wasteland, and absolutely no touchbutt since Portal the Israeli might not even get a visa.

To everyone referring to Conor getting subbed by Nate, I think you are missing the point. He didn't get subbed by Nate 3 times and he didn't look any good on the ground against Mendes either.

I'm sure Gunnar has tried, but it's difficult to teach someone who turns every session into a game of touch butt

That's the problem he's spending too much time on the things he already does well and not putting in the ground time where his effort is needed.

I think people underestimate how easy it is to pick up elite grappling from an elite grappler. It isnt as easy as just training with an elite grappler... I mean, I doubt Conor focused much on grappling until he got to UFC and that was only a couple years ago

Two of those submission loses are from earlier in his career before he got serious, and one was to a superior grappler after he gassed. This notion that he has no ground game is way overplayed. I will grant it's his weakest point but its all relative.

Yes!!! I have often argued that 1 of the first rules for Conor to get his game back on and his mentality back strong is a focused training regime that includes ABSOLUTELY NO touch butt or Portal's presence at all for that matter.
