I though Saul would be closer to a Million since he is the “Face” of boxing but it looks like his sales are dropping compared to the 800+ he sold vs Plant. And now will probably just keep going lower now that he lost again.

The fight between then-pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez and WBA light heavyweight world titlist Dmitry Bivol finished with a surprising result and a disappointing pay-per-view performance.

The fight at T-Mobile Arena on May 7 — the first-ever DAZN pay-per-view card — generated a total of approximately 520,000 buys in the United States, a source with direct knowledge of the figures told Fight Freaks Unite.

eh ... are you guys really suprised? this was dazn first ppv.

bivol is an easter guy, not that popular compared to plant (only hardcore boxing fans know plant) and dazn is the definition of trash when it comes to promoting fights & its worse in the states.

amazin that canelo can still crack 500k under these circumstances.

i'm guessing a big portion of it was dazn not only charging their usual subscription but also a ppv charge to watch the card as well

You could actually order the PPV separately without having a monthly/annual subscription. If you already had a subscription then it was $20 cheaper.

That’s actually not bad for dazn’s first ppv and as others say they couldnt promote ice cubes in a desert so good for them

@MMALOPEZ are these good numbers?

To be their first PPV is ok…. Bivol is not a marquee name…. They lost $$ that’s for sure… but it’s a good first step… of those buys how many are $60 how many are $80 plus the ticket sales and sponsors they are pretty close of going even business wise …

The part that I’m not sure is that I’ve been hearing a little more of 300k(by multiple people) … Eddie was saying double that number … and then out of the blue Dan Rafael says 520k without an official announcement when Dazn was claiming 1 million viewers for the taylor vs Serrano a few days after the show …

My take is that the ppv number is lower than the 520k announced … and they are just using a media guy like Rafael that has a great relationship with Eddie to put a # out there ..

I'm not all that surprised. Bivol is an obscure fighter especially in the west. I've even talked to hardcores that weren't that familiar with him. To make matters worse he's been a risk averse fighter for the last several years. Had Canelo been paired with a more visible and established action fighter like GGG the PPV buy rate would've been a lot higher. Fortunately, with Canelo having lost to Bivol, the rematch will be projected to do big numbers.

only? i feel like that’s a lot better than other recent ppvs. could be wrong though

500k at $60 is 30 million dawg, not including subscriptions and sponsors, they’re fine.

Feel like Arturo Biev’s would have sold better - he’s just got that look and is just as menacing if not more than Chunko Alvarez

A card that features two non native English speakers outsold a UFC PPV which had Chandler/Gaethje/Oliveira/Namajunas/Ferguson//Rua/Cerrone (pulled last min) as well as the general branding of the UFC.

That's not bad for a "low end" PPV from Canelo.

In other words you have absolutely no idea how many buys

Did you read what I actually wrote ???

Nelo alone made over 40 mil….
No, he got 15 guaranteed and ppv cut

the reported cut is bullshit, he isn’t getting 70%.

DAZN wasn't a good platform to go to in the first place. It was always going to shrink the audience. Mix public TV with PPV, and in a proper way, not in this random PBC undercard headliner format.

But yeah this is low. It was a far more interesting fight than Plant. I literally had to google Plant to remember who he was just now. Bivol was an interesting challenge for Canelo; should have done more.

Lol… ok whatever you say
You do realize 70% would be how much DAZN would get after taxes right? You’re an idiot if you think that this was a loss leader or promotional fight and not a money maker

Bivol took the 30%, and likely made a career high purse.

This should have been a Showtime ppv..... they could have doubled those numbers.
I will search wherever to watch Canelo, but not a lot of casuals will.
