'Satanist' US Army soldier at Fort Riley admits to giving out bomb instructions

Considering the thread about the guy who attacked people for registering voters, I figure each side manages to go a couple of weeks at best before some jack ass makes a poor example of himself across the news.

I'm more bothered by the idea of spreading the ability to make explosives. I'm wondering what everyone thinks a fair sentence is. My gut says death penalty for spreading info on how to make IEDs and the like, but that info is already out there and I'm sure anybody who really wants to can find it. Still, he wanted to teach people how to act like jihadis. If the death penalty is too much, I say he spends life in prison breaking himself over a hammer.

 

More than far-right sympathies or devil worship, I suspect not getting laid the the #1 issue with this kid.

It looks like he just got into the military and likely doesn't know a fucking thing about explosives...a Private in the infantry? Yeah, he's most likely just an internet tough guy. As @Gregolian stated many of the basic ingredients lists can be found online. There's no way this idiot gained any kind of knowledge about this stuff from the military.

He's been in since 2017 and is infantry, but over all, I'll defer to people like yourself when it comes to this stuff. I never handled anything more complicated than a claymore. I don't know that he didn't pick up anything though.

This guy seemed to offer instructions that were somewhat comprehensive (making a detonator). Not that that seems all that hard; I'm pretty sure I could figure it out. But there are a lot of idiots out there with violent tendencies who are mostly harmless because they're too indolent to teach themselves anything. Guys like Smith have the ability to make those people more dangerous.

I think it's both, but you're making a pretty important distinction.

In modern society, a lonely guy can't just be lonely in private like before. They're a lonely loser in public view. Everyone and everything is connected, and there is no shelter from the contrast between themselves, other people, and the exaggerated representations of those other people's lives.

The timeline of events is tough to determine, but it says he transferred as a Private to Fort Riley, Kansas. It says he joined the Army in 2017, and by August 2019 he was already talking to an FBI Informant about the bomb stuff. So you think 6-8 months of training...so maybe he did 18-24 months in the infantry. That's more time than I figured when I first read it, but as I said no one is really reporting his military education.
