News Santos would like to apologize to absolutely.....

When guys come off of serious injuries, they need to take easier comeback fights. That isn't to diminish Glover's win but that wasn't an easy fight for a Thiago that never got hurt.
Which is a reason not to still call him or anyone else that is fresh of a title shot the #1 ranked. We don't know how they'll come back.

The lhw division is just like it was before Jon Jones - Where any of these guys can beat anyone in the division on any given night. They're all so evenly matched that it really shows you there's lhw and then there's Jones.

Except it seems like anyone can beat Jon Jones on any given night now too

So he didn't train to KTFO Glover? Because he sure was close to doing that. The only mistake he made was not to stand up when he was pounding on Glover, though at the same time he was also really close to finishing him. Santos lost because his grappling is mediocre and he's a turtle off his back and fought a smart(er) fighter.

The mental side of things always gets overlooked but its just as important in winning a fight. The long layoff and all the pressure of being the guy that almost beat Jon Jones got to him

Santos has the exact same thing as Chael: the Yips. Some athletes that get close the precipice of victory freeze up and have a complete mental block in certain situations.

It's not being a frontrunner; someone that fades as soon as adversity hits. It's quite literally choking under pressure. Rumble has it, Chael has it, Uriah Hall does and it appears Santos has hit as well.

It mostly seems to be failing to assess the situation properly, they lose situational awareness and make rookie mistakes.

Jones is such a level above that he arguably lost his last 2 fights and went tooth and nail against Anthony Smith.

Jones off the juice is nothing special

Dude really shit the bed. Everytime he had Glover rocked, he decided to go to the ground and let Glover recover and take over and finally submit him. Low fight IQ imo.

Yea I think he underestimated how easily he would get reversed and molested in the event that he couldn’t finish it. When he followed him down in the 3rd he landed a lot of solid gnp.

With the ground game Santos showed he should’ve employed the gameplan people use against Khabib.

It was just as much Glover being able to absorb what Thiago hit him with and survive long enough to get the fight where he needed to.
Following Glover to the ground was a gift from God to Glover for being a hood guy

Jones is average without his full stack of supplements

The commentators have pointed out during the fight at one point that Santos wasn't utilizing his lower body/legs to transition himself from one position to another while in the bottom position while Glover was utilizing his whole body (including his leg drive) to do so.

It seems like Santos still hasn't gotten back into his full shape yet, especially after that ACL tear on both his legs + knee surgery...

Short version: Santos can't really wrestle/grapple and even properly defend takedowns if his legs aren't in 100% shape to do so, right?
