to get out of the arm bar.

Isn't it against the rules ?

One could argue that he was just shaking his arm to get Casey out of the position, but even though I wanted Josh to win, I interpreted it as an intentional head hit. I haven't rewatched it many times though.

You're touching on how it's illegal to spike someone headfirst with a slam?

There's a specific exemption in the rules for getting out of submissions.

No gif?
Bah....

And Casey finally showcased his ground game. To bad he has no cardio

Yeah in the case of a submission the responsibility of protecting the head falls back on the guy performing the submission attempt. He is basically choosing between holding the submission and getting slammed on his head. You don't wanna get slammed, let go.

It sure would be nice if the rules actually explained this.

Em... they do

Fouls

27.. Spiking the opponent to the canvas onto the head or neck (pile-driving)

A pile driver is considered to be any throw where you control your opponent's body placing his feet straight up in the air with his head straight down and then forcibly drive your opponents head into the canvas or flooring material. It should be noted when a fighter is placed into a submission hold by their opponent, if that fighter is capable of elevating their opponent they may bring that opponent down in any fashion they desire because they are not in control of their opponents body. The fighter who is attempting the submission can either adjust their position, or let go of their hold before being slammed to the canvas.

^^^Well.....I just learned something. Thanks.

Can't stand Samman but he was impressive as hell tonight.

It's well worth giving the full unified rules (as opposed to the truncated ones on the UFC's website) a read; let's you know a lot of little details and points that often slip the mind.

That said, the ABC isn't great at updating their website; I know there have been some changes to the rules (notably about how to score a bout) that have changed but the version on their site doesn't reflect this.
