Idk about you guys, but I find the idea alotta fun when a buncha fighters from the same weight class in the UFC participate on one main card.

I mean, it kinda makes me think of the tournament style that Bellator has.
But these fighters are fighting at the highest competition in the UFC.

Bellator guys are just fighting for recognition, a chance at getting alotta cash & participating in events so close to one another.

Anyways. What are your guys thoughts about these?
Do you think the UFC should continue doing them more? I mean they already did the Heavyweights & possibly could do Welterweights for UFC 158!

And just for a bonus, if you could take the current crop of the UFC fighters and make a Main card full of fighters from the same division what would you do?

My thoughts:

Heavyweight:

Junior Dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem.
Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum.
Daniel Cormier vs. Mark Hunt.
Stefan Struve vs. Bigfoot Silva.
Pat Barry vs. Roy Nelson.

Light-Heavyweight:

Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson.
Rashad Evans vs. Dan Henderson.
Glover Teixeira vs. Shogun Rua.
Lyoto Machida vs. Chael Sonnen.
James Te-Huna vs. Rampage Jackson.

Middleweight:

Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman.
Hector Lombard vs. Vitor Belfort.
Michael Bisping vs. Alan Belcher.
Mark Munoz vs. Tim Boestch.
Chris Leben vs. Fabio Maldonado (Stated he's dropping to MW.)

Welterweight:

Georges St. Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks.
Rory MacDonald vs. Carlos Condit II.
Jake Ellenberger vs. Nate Marquardt.
Nick Diaz vs. Martin Kampmann.
Jake Shields vs. Demian Maia.

Lightweight:

Benson Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis II.
Gilbert Melendez vs. Gray Maynard.
Donald Cerrone vs. Edson Barboza.
Nate Diaz vs. Joe Lauzon.
Diego Sanchez vs. Jamie Varner.

Featherweight:

Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar.
Korean Zombie vs. Cub Swanson.
Chad Mendes vs. Dustin Poirier.
Clay Guida vs. Ricardo Lamas.
Erik Koch vs. Dennis Siver.

Bantamweight:

Dominick Cruz vs. Renan Barao.
Michael McDonald vs. Urijah Faber.
Brian Bowles vs. Brad Pickett.
Eddie Wineland vs. Mike Easton.
T.J. Dillashaw vs. Ivan Menjivar.

What about you Sherdog?!

TS, good work, these cards are awesome.

I wouldnt do it for Womens or the newer lighter weight classes..

Great match ups! you should kick Joe Silva ass.. really the Hw and LHW, i would spent my lunch money to see it!

I know, but I'm just wondering what people think about these types of cards.

I like it. I think they should do it for the GSP vs Diaz card. They already have Rory vs Condit and Hendricks vs Ellenberger, they are well on their way.

It only makes sense with all the injuries to have fighters in the same weight class ready to step up to fill the main event if need be!

It'll be good for injury replacements if they can shuffle the match ups unless the fighters balk at fighting a new late notice opponent they didn't have sufficient time to do opponent specific gameplanning for. Having most of the card stay intact is better than the whole card being cancelled.

i wouldnt mind it if they did these like 3 times a year MAX. i like when they mix up the weight classes, as it dramatically changes things up in fight styles, speed, strength etc.

That would be cool. I like your matchups btw ts.

good list
except I'd rather,
Cormier/Nelson
Barry/Hunt

I was also thinking I'd like to see Pat Barry vs. Mark Hunt, but I'd also like to see Pat's speed and power vs. JDS or Cain.

i really liked ufc 146 and i think having cards based around a weight class is good.
