He's not wrong. Name one guy that knew nothing but sambo and had high level success in mma. You can't. You can name boxers, kickboxers, wrestlers, bjj guys, a judo girl, and muay thai guys that went pretty far without knowing much else, but you can't name one sambo guy that went anywhere using only sambo.

If you really think all Fedor knew was sambo, you're delusional. Was it his base? Yes. Was it the only thing he trained? No. Fedor trained in everything. He wouldn't have made it as far as he did with only sambo.

Khabib trains with guys like Cormier and Rockhold. He has picked up a lot of wrestling skills and it shows in his fights. Sambo alone isn't bringing him all of his success.

Wrestling sucks. There are some good MMA Grapplers who used to do wrestling though, but wrestling sucks. You don't see any MMA champs out there with singlets, headgear and goofy sneakers on fighting, do you?

Chael talking out of his ass again. Asking "where is the Sambo arena?" Well, several countries have National Championships and there is a World Championship tournament as well.

What other sports combine striking and grappling? Of course, Fedor was also a Russian National Judo team member, but Combat Sambo is probably where he refined his transitions from punching to clinching.

Combat Sambo is basically MMA in a gi top and headgear. It is very similar to MMA. A lot of Sambo guys also have backgrounds in judo, wrestling, boxing, karate, etc.

Chael might not see too many Sambo guys in the American promotions but there are quite a few in Russian MMA promotions.

Sambo has the russian mystique, Its effective like karate but you still need to cross train to be sucessful. high level WrestleBoxers are still the kings of mma.
