A training injury has knocked Justin Salas (10-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) out of a preliminary-card fight against Edson Barboza (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at "UFC on FX 7: Belfort vs. Bisping" later this month.

Stepping in for Salas is UFC newcomer Lucas Martins (11-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC). Sources close to the promotion on Wednesday confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

UFC on FX 7 takes place Jan. 19 at Ginasio Estadual Geraldo Jose de Almeida, also known as Ginasio do Ibirapuera, in San Paulo, Brazil. It will be the UFC's first trip to Sao Paulo. The main card airs on FX in the U.S. and features a middleweight fight between Vitor Belfort (21-10 MMA, 10-6 UFC) and Michael Bisping (23-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC).

Martins just this past month won a pair of fights in Sao Paulo in less than a week's time. He submitted Thiago Sampaio with a first-round rear-naked choke in 43 seconds on Dec. 8, then turned around and stopped Oberdan Vieira Tenorio with a head-kick knockout on Dec. 13 under the Jungle Fight banner.

Those two wins made him 9-0 in 2012

barboza vs the enegizer bunny? who knows may be a fun fight.

i'm calling it now: first backflip kick KO in UFC history.

Looks like they took him off WSOF's hands as he was listed on their roster before

Everything is possible

This immediately crosses my mind everytime Barboza is mentioned

Brazilian card, Brazilian fighter, two weeks notice vs Barboza, unbeaten in his career, fought in Jungle Fights, Wallid is cool with Dana and many of his guys go on to the UFC. JF is like UFC's Brazilian feeder league.

Not sure what the problem is.

There's no problem? I meant, that goes to show that everything is possible if you stay IN SCHOOL KIDS!

Well in that case you are right, I thought you meant why is he getting a shot after only being in the sport alittle over a year when other guys take years and sometimes never make it.

Lucas Martins

I think this is his December KO

This is the better matchup.

a few weeks ago I called Martins getting signed in 2013. This is a much better fight, Salas would have gotten murdered

Yeah, I think it's awesome for someone to rise so quick. In less than 1.5 years of pro experience you get to fight Edson fucking Barboza, that's crazy.
I was going to upload the fight to youtube as its not on there, no need now. Thanks for the gif.
That is the only part of the fight that I have seen. You should still upload it.
