Media Sage casually benching 405

Maybe being around football players and powerlifters has biased me, but is a 405lbs bench really that strong?

It's strong for the average person, but not in those circles. Like I said, I think some of my peers have made my standards a bit too high <45>

It's not just strong for the average person. It's very strong for most athletes in other sports as well. Football players and competitive powerlifters are some of the most gifted people o planet earth in strength and you still find some NFL caliber players and fairly good powerlifters that can't bench 405, at a heavier bodyweight than Northcutt also.

Of course, if we are talking about the elite athletes in those sports, then yeah, it becomes fairly common to see 4 plates bench or more, but it's really weird to use those guys as the bench mark for what you think it's impressive. Football players and powerlifters are a very small group of super talented people for strength, they don't represent in the rest of the population in the slightest.

Okay Sage, wanna impress, let’s see what your incline bench looks like

This is the most Sherdog response ever hahaha well done

Sage: Benches 405 and looking jacked
Sherdogger: meh not that impressed

every time I see a Redcon shirt I immediately think about PEDs

Incredible. Imagine he went into powerlifting with bulk. Hes probably do 700lb

Oh, I agree. Like I said, I'm just biased because of the people I hung around haha.

Lol like I said above, it's less Sherdog and more my college weight room.

If this guy could just fully commit, get the right team around him, and put the work in, he could be the biggest porn star who ever lived.

Juice or no juice, impressive lift. The guy has always been naturally strong, even in his early Ka-ra-te pictures, he was always ripped. Good for him :)

Someday I hope to be that strong myself.

Hespect, it's serious weight. Not sure if a high bench is helpful in MMA per SE but I get it. Dude got his face broke so he can't spar or at least couldn't for a time. Spent that time in the gym.
He could probably be a bodybuilder or powerlifter if he dedicated himself to it.

He should file his teeth down. Shit bugs me

Wasn't his dad caught or involved in some steroid ring or trafficking or something?

I'm not going to make accusations here but, come on lol

Edit:

"According to a story titled, 'The Thin White Line,' written for D Magazine back in 1990 by Glenna Whitley, Northcutt was known for being the go to guy for steroids amongst the Texas body building community and was arrested for possession of twenty-five kilos of cocaine back in the day."

That’s quite a haul

<mma4>
Impressed, easy see he's strong but i usually associate these lifts to bigger/heavier people
What’s the point in benching 405 if you can’t take a punch? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Even though it looks like the spotter isn't doing much, it makes a huge difference. Anyone who has ever attempted 405 will tell you that. Don't get me wrong, Sage is very strong for a guy his size, but that's not at all him casually benching 405. Thats him benching 405 with assistance

In my prime I used to be able to Bench 325. Squat 550. Lol, I can probably barely bench 180 right now, and squat 300. I have really fallen off.

My best friend used to bench 365 lbs for 6 reps (he's natty btw). He stopped working out yrs ago, he's still a big, huge dude but he recently tried to bench 225 & couldn't do 1 rep.

I'm nowhere near his numbers but I've fallen off a cliff too. In my case it was because I haven't worked out for 9 months (Toronto gyms were closed 9 consecutive months due to covid, & I suffered a injury so I never bothered to build a home gym during the 9 months). I am now doing about 60-70% of what I used to do pre-covid, its taken me a lot longer than I anticipated to try to get back anywhere near peak
