Vasyl Lomacheko is an A-level athlete and an elite boxer. He is also known for being a grappling prodigy in his youth

Last month, he made headlines by showcasing his wrestling skills

Do you agree with Hall's assessment ? IMO with as little as 1 year of training he would be ready to take on top BW/FLW contenders. His footwork, hand-eye coordination and natural athleticism would be too much for the UFC roster. Let's not forget that Cody Garbrandt with an amateur boxing record of 30-1 literally ran through the division, I think it is fair to say that someone of Lomachenko's caliber would do significantly better

Its not hard to imagine other A Level Combat Athletes doing well in MMA, its not the same thing when its about NBA/NFL athletes

It's entirely possible but chances are we will never know. Lomachenko fan btw.

I'm not saying he's right or wrong. What I am saying is that I don't give two flying fucks about Ryan Hall's opinion.

<bball1>

A: Cody was a college wrestler. He grew up training boxing&wrestling. Dipping your toe in wrestling while you were a baby doesn't mean you would succeed against guys who literally have been spending all day wrestling for decades.

B: Ryan himself isn't even a successful MMA fighter yet, so who is he to assess whether Loma would have success in MMA?

He'll be successful because of his wrestling background, more important than his athleticism.

Lomachenko has SKILLS that translate to mma fighting very well.

You put the average soccer, basketball player into mma and it's another story.
"Natural athleticism" only carries you so far.

Hall should teach Lomacheko the art of flopping to your back

Why he is an A level athlete ?? He can be a soccer star ?

inb4 clueless casuals mention Toney.

He was literally obese and trained less than 1 hour of grappling.

..."knows nothing about fighting or the degree of work ethic it takes to have anything approaching the skill level he has"
Using this argument you could argue that all top athletes could transition into any sport.
Most have a huge degree of work ethic and amazing skill levels.
That in itself is not an argument that they would do well in MMA.

Until he mentions more specifics about Loma's MMA skills I'll wait..

NOTE: Yes, I know Loma can wrestle. Just sayin this particular tweet doesn't mention anything about MMA in particular.
B: Ryan himself isn't even a successful MMA fighter yet, so who is he to assess whether Loma would have success in MMA?
Yeah, looks kind of weird to use Hall's name as if he was a major authority on the subject.

But on the other hand, I wouldn't say that a great MMA fighter is automatically better at finding talent than a decent MMA fighter. I think there are some great MMA fighters who would be terrible at assessing other fighters, and vice versa.
