Another "it will never happen" scenario with Russia and China is happening. Russia have now officially dropped 1/3 of their reliance on the dollar in the last year alone. The major gas deal reached by China and Russia will also be done in their own domestic currency, not the US dollar. Both countries have been publicly announcing their plans to drop the dollar for a while now but most observers assumed it would never come to pass. I don't believe China has made any other major moves against the dollar aside from announcing plans and leaking rumours but until now it's been assumed that China would be the first to move against it, not Russia. Seems like they will follow course soon if they haven't already. With the petrodollar widely considered to be one of the major staples of global US power such a move would likely destabilize the position of the united states on the world stage.
