Russia before soviet union era?

It's confusing to know what the deal is. I mean they sure do steal the profits for themselves but tons of articles about extraction:
View attachment 710355

I mean your source literally says that a chief problem with resource extraction is the sanctions put in place BECAUSE THEY INVADED UKRAINE AND REFUSE TO LEAVE.

So....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Are we just going to act like the climate is the real problem here?

See I am a bit confused. Some say it was the worse thing that happened to Russia and others say that it created prosperity.

I am trying to educate myself and at this point I have no real opinion on the matter.
It went full circle.

A revolution like the one in 1917 does not just happen for the sake of it. Russia was a complete mess and the conditions for a regime change were given.

Then the rest if history. The constant bureaucrazitation and stupidity of Stalin and company ended up by destroying the URSS.

Sure, and Venezuela's troubles stem from the fact they also have no natural resources ...except for having the largest proven oil deposits on the planet.
Venezuela troubles came because those resources were taking by a few and they let the rest in extreme poverty.
Then they took a turn to the left with chavism and years after they ended up in the same situation or even worse.

There is a debate that Venezuela's problem is actually having oil. They could be a better place if they weren't be able to rely in oil profits and actually cared to develop some kind of industry.

Stalin starved Ukraine in the most awful famine the Soviet Union had ever seen, all this to feed mother russia. Yep, prosperity...
He also destroyed the Aral Sea to plant cotton.

The guy didn't give a shit about anything.

The Ukraine is part of the problem and this came to my attention and now I know its various factors but harsh climate is also another issue in some places.

all a lie. they never were so Viet.

To be fair, Mao and Stalin both oversaw fascist dictatorships but enthusiastically engaged in LARPing where they pretended to be communist.

So, Mao and Stalin.. not communist.

lmao ok.

All I can tell you is Russian strippers live in shitty areas of Brooklyn in cramped apts, have a shitty job, and still love it here.

You're repeating party propaganda.

The industrialization of the USSR was done hastily, shoddily, and paid for in the blood of workers and anyone unfortunate enough to be labeled a dissident.

Russia is and was extremely rich in natural resources, prior to the revolution however much of it's land mass was poor on infrastructure.

The USSR did not enrich Russia as a nation, it enriched the party, though it did help to improve "modern" infrastructure as a necessity to support the booming military, energy, and mining sectors.

It was extremely corrupt and the communist party oversaw extreme inequality due to the powerful and wealthy sucking up money and resources as they saw fit instead of working to efficiently feed the nation.

You are describing 90s Russia undergoing oligarchization more than the USSR here. in the USSR there were no millionaires nor billionaires, money didn't mean power like it does in capitalist countries, in fact it was practically impossible to become rich since private enterprise was banned. Let's say you were theoretically a millionaire in the Soviet Union and you wanted to get yourself a mansion, there were no landlords you could rent a mansion from and there were no private contractors you could just hire to build it, you had to send a proposal to the Gosbank asking for the allocation of resources and construction workers for a fixed amount of time to build your mansion, of course they would most likely 1) deny your self-seeking, time-wasting proposal 2) send the kgb to investigate how could this asshole have millions in the first place. How you got a mansion in the USSR was by being in the graces of the Party, and after you died the house went back into public property. It was an entirely different system based around political currency and ideology, money didn't really mean much.

Mao says ‘hello’

But yeah, that whole communism thing. Just bad

Communism as a concept could be good but it has never been practiced on a large scale. What the Soviets and Chinese called communism was just a dictatorship. In a monarchy it is possible to have a benevolent ruler but in the Soviet Union, rule was taken and held by force by a group of less than benevolent people.

I am looking for sources that explains and show cases Russia pre USSR era.

Truth be told, I give credit where credit is due. Soviet union did bring prosperity in a land with no real resources by being industrialist.

Meanwhile middle eastern countries with rich land resources in respect to oil and soil ended up mismanaging their own economy.
What the hell are you talking about? Russia had/has plenty of resources, and certainly didn't need Socialism to tap them. Russia is a large nation that has an economy the size of Texas because of Socialism (not for a lack of resources).

Thread belongs in the War Room.

Your ghettos are like upper class neighbourhoods in russia

Like a russian vlogger said about compton

"These guys live in their own houses and this is considered a bad neighbourhood, they dont even know what a ghetto is"

Maybe I missed your point, but the USSR was awful, one of the worst regimes in human history.
Yup. And that "booming economy" was largely created at the expense of countries trapped behind the iron curtain, their freedom and using state sponsored terror tactics. Same shit as colonialism but with a different name.

No real resources? They have a TON of natural resources. Russia, in fact, has over THIRTY percent of the world's natural resources. Russia is the number ONE exporter of natural gas and the third largest exporter of oil in the world. If you want an example of a prosperous nation with "no real resources", you should look at Japan.

https://personal.ems.psu.edu/~williams/russia.htm

Japan has always been described as a country with virtually no major natural resources such as natural gas, oil, gold, coal, copper, and iron. The country depends on imported raw material and energy. In fact, Japan is the largest importer of liquefied natural gas and coal, and the second-largest importer of oil in the world.

I already posted the source about folks mentioning that its difficult to extract resources due to harsh climate. Also, I am not making a side, I am looking for documentary because I am being told different things and I want to see what the truth is. Hence the title of the thread is a question and not a statement.

I am asking a question about Russia pre soviet union, I am being told many different things and I am looking for definitive answer. Regarding Stalin, soviet union existed before Stalin, Gregory and another was supposed to be in charge but through forgery and deceptive tactics, Stalin came to power. Stalin did not start the soviet union nor was he supposed to be in charge had it been done in a fair election.

Anyways, I am not re-visioning anything but simply asking for documentaries that are more in line with the facts as oppose to opposing views.
Regardless of the "difficulties" of extracting resources, Russia still has more natural resources than almost any other nation on Earth and is the leading exporter, or one of the leading exporters of almost all of the major natural resources in the world.

lol lots of things sound great as concepts, let’s focus on what it does become when its actually practiced.. the results are devestating on a scale that dwarfs even what the Nazis did. Like I said from the start, concentrating so much power thru the government lends itself to the cult of personality.. it’s a terrible and oppressive form of government. No system is perfect, but countries like America and it’s system seem to be a good comfort zone.

Surely you jest? The US is pretty close to being a dictatorship with a leader refusing to work within the system checks and balances. In any system, power always ends up being held by a few who pervert the system.

I stand corrected on this issue and acknowledge that I misrepresented the fact due to piss poor researching or fact checking.
