There's been a lot of speculation on CM Punk's UFC future. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted this week that there are numerous accounts that say Punk has been working hard but he has not progressed well as a fighter. Punk has participated in live sparring sessions at the gym and there have been a lot of rumors about how he looked but it's been consistently said that he has not fared well.

UFC originally hoped for Punk, who has had to delay his training at times due to back and shoulder injuries, to debut in the summer of fall of 2015 but injuries and the way he adapted to MMA cause delays. UFC then looked at having him debut on the June 4th UFC 199 in Los Angeles but that was changed when Punk underwent back surgery, the same surgery Cain Velasquez had a few weeks before Punk, and Cain is booked to fight at UFC 200 on July 9th in Las Vegas.

The Observer also noted that the general feeling is Punk's first scheduled opponent, Mickey Gall, will probably run through him. It was pointed out that while there will obviously be a lot of buzz when the fight date is announced, UFC has kept quiet on Punk and lately he's kept a low profile, away from the media. The main reason behind signing a rookie fighter like Punk was the major media attention. Meltzer believes if too much moretime goes by without a fight date announced, that will be telling of the whole situation.

He should accept it won't go well for him, cite injuries as an excuse as to why he can't ever compete and respectfully bow the fuck out.

Complete waste of time, just cut him now and put the experiment to rest.

I wish he would just fuck off and go back to WWE.

He isn't going to do anything in MMA.

That said, Punk via GTS, round 1.

He hasnt got it. You can tell by the way he moved in the wwe that he wouldnt transition to mma well.

He's been give the opportunity to do nothing but basically train the last couple years. Shouldn't he be a red and black belt bjj master and 4th or 5th dan black belt in another martial art by now?

what an embarrassment this whole situation is.

I'm really looking forward to watching him fight. No really, I am. I'm just yawning because I was up late last night watching 198

He was injury prone in the WWE as well. Knee surgeries, broken ribs and concussions....

Remember when they took a break from a live event to announce CM Punk coming to the UFC.

LOL jokes.

Agreed, but that'd be wasting the million already given to CMP.
It's ironic and sad, they wasted 1m with Punk while people are soundly talking about how little fighters get paid.

he really thought he could just prance into the ufc

it was pretty stupid on his part to not atleast have had these gym wars first.
shows how desperate ufc can get at times seeing as they called him!!
i wonder which other entertainers theyve approached during a drought.. i bet the rock is fight away from a titleshot at all times
now cm punk is in a no win situation
1 dont fight and get ridiculed
2 fight and get embarrassed... and possibly ridiculed.

He needs to fight soon or id say the injury excuse is no longer valid. Get it over with. Its like a kid heading to a fight at the bus stop with a bigger kid. You know your gonna lose -- but society dictates you must fight regardless.

Too late hes already missed that boat, should jumped on 10 years ago now anyone who just decides to mma from whatever sport will face too much experienced comp.

Hell look at McG and his wrestling, whilst may not be elite is not advanced enough to beat the elite of LW.

What was CM SPUNK thinking ????

If the UFC and Punk's handlers have taken an honest look at the situation and determined he isn't ready, shouldn't everyone consider that a good thing?

Duke Roufus has been delaying his debut as much as possible. When CM Punk had an injury last Autumn that should have only delayed him for weeks, Roufus started talking about UFC 200, which was like ten months away. That tells you two things for sure:

1. He isn't confident in CM Punk's abilities.
2. He's on salary.
