Why would people try to strike him when they can just take his back and strangle him?

Yeh they can "just" do that. Simple as that. That's why only DC could do it at LHW, which took him 3 rounds

Vitor didn't land anything. As I recall it Rumble just gassed after a seriously bad weight cut.

I agree, he did land a decent uppercut and knee in that exchange though, it was after Rumble had already shot for the takedown however and didn't really seem to hurt him at all.
