Roy Nelson Gets NO RESPECT...NONE

The reason he doesn't get respect in my opinion is he's of all things to small for the heavyweight division. It shows when he fights the power house guys Cain, JDS, even Arlovski stoped him. He is heavy but alot of that weight sadly is fat. I bet if he dropped that fat he would be a natural 205er
 
He actually gets a lot of respect around here. Just because everyone is honest about his chances of being an elite heavyweight, it doesn't mean that they don't repect him. Any man who can take the kind of beating he took from JDS and keep pushing has my respect.
 
If people don't take him seriously because he's got a gut then the jokes on them. Dude hits twice as hard as Hendo.
 
He will always be a gatekeeper. I think if he truly got serious and dropped to 205 he could be a force and a very interesting matchup for Jones.

  • I don't know what part of the Internet you've been hanging out in, but I see no Nelson haters. There's a) people who go nuts over him and claim he's a contender every time he beats a mid-level (or worse, in Mitrione's case) fighter and b) people who have to tell the first group "Settle down, Beavis" every time, but still respect him.
  • He's not in my top 10, but he's close, and I can buy someone arguing for him being 10th. However, it's also worth noting he's never beaten anyone in the top 15.
  • His striking is really quite good for a guy who came up as a BJJ man.
  • But before you get too wowzy about it, he still got decisively outstruck by Werdum, another BJJ specialist.

right because you tested them on your own punching power device? Or is it because ko'ing Herman, Struve, and Schaub is so much more impressive than koing Fedor, Feijao, Bisping, Wandy, and Babalu?

That is INSANE for how he has stood with the very best stand up heavyweight in history and didnt get finished, beat cro cop(say what you want about him being washed up, roy had only been working on his stand up for like 2 years at the time of the fight and still won! didnt get outclassed in the standup!!!!), his losses to werdum and mir were not pretty, but he didnt get finished!! That is impressive. Looked fine in the stand up vs Mir too IMO, he just got out outwrestled which was more surprising to see him raggdolled.

Roy Nelson is a HELL OF A FIGHTER. HELL OF A FIGHTER. Top 10 heavy for sure, and idc what anyone says, hes only getting better. People who say AA KedhimTFO dont realise, he wassnt going hard in his stand up at the point in his career, and hell Roy was winning that before the BS stand up!

Just want to give this guy props as a heavyweight. Get his fatty rep out of your heads boys. The guy knows how to BRAND and is very good at it, which is why he is popular. I just think real fight fans should give this guy the respect he deserves as a fighter. Not saying he is a GOAT or top 5, but top 10 for sure and seems to be getting better.

and before you call me some fat guy whos on his bandwaggon for that, I weigh in at 160 and im 5'11. I just think this guy gets no respect because of his looks and the way he brands himself as a fatty/joke/average joe. Hes not.

He's shitty to his fans and has a crappy attitude, that makes people not want to respect you. I like watching his fights, but he's not someone i'd want to go drinking with. A lot of fans base their opinion on whether they like a fighter and not their skill set.
