I've been enjoying some of his highlight reels and consider him to be one of the greatest ever in his prime, but it's a bummer to see a champion who's ability has diminished go down like this. Granted, his opponent is much bigger, but prime RJJ would have beaten him.

He's got at least 10 more fights in him

He just posted on IG yesterday or the day before that he doesn't want to retire yet, he just feels like fighting for now.

Kova fans will say anything to keep him from taking another loss.

He should have retired 13 years ago. But was yet another boxer who squandered his money and ended up in debt to the feds.

It's a shame because prime RJJ Jr was one of the top boxers of all time IMO. There's nobody from 160-175 in the history of boxing that I would pick to beat RJJ. His skill was off the charts. He had a built in radar. Very rarely got hit clean and the offense he brought into the ring could not be replicated.

The thing that really irks me about Jones, is that he purposely avoided tough match ups when he was in his prime as he didn't like boxing, and was quite public with his feelings after McClellan got injured.

It was always a money thing for him, when he started to lose his fame, he actually realised he loved boxing

Another one of these guys who couldnt hold up when the going got tough

How were Hopkins, Toney, Ruiz, Tarver not touch match-ups?

...who did he avoid?

The three names that usually come up are Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn and Dariusz Michaelczewski.

Dariusz refused to fight outside of Germany, and after Roy was fucked over in South Korea it's understandable why he wouldn't want to go to a strange country and risk getting fucked over on a decision, and Germany was known for fucking foreigners on decisions.

Chris Eubank refused to come to America, and since admitted that he preferred to stay in his own little world in the UK, and actually liked fighting prime Roy Jones or James Toney to "suicide".

Nigel Benn DID come over to the US, and they were going to fight at one point, but Nigel was under Don King, and King stipulated to Jones that in order to fight Nigel, Jones would have to sign with King. Roy didn't want to be under King's control.

I respect all those guys but Jones fought FAR superior fighters to those 3 guys in James Toney, Bhop, etc.

Just for his health I hope he hangs em up.

He would've destroyed anyone that anyone says he avoided during his prime.

couldn't agree more... Surprisingly he's not showing signs of being punch drunk but he shouldn't take anymore risks. They say that 20% of boxers suffer from pugilistic dementia, the longer your career and how many times you get KO'd are all factors. Roy has so much to live for he's a great coach and commentator he needs to move on.

Yeah should have retired after tarver 1

I don't know why he would take the fight in the first video. The guy looks like a killer.
First time I've seen that.

this one was even worse, Roy has to stop. It's really crazy getting knocked out like that is extremely painful and draining. It's like Roy likes the pain or something, it's really sad. He's a great coach too, seriously it makes zero sense to keep getting KO'd like this in your 40's.

The last punch was so unnecessary

Jones Jr. is a massive -2500 favorite over bare knuckle boxing champion and experienced pro boxer Bobby Gunn this Friday in a cruiserweight contest Delaware with the comeback on Gunn at at +1050. I mean, Roy's obviously way ahead of his opponent in skill but it would not shock me if he got caught with Gunn's power if he makes a mistake.

I often think it's either debt or force of habit that keeps guys like Jones Jr. in the game to long. That is, they either need the money and can't stop or just can't break out of the cycle of training twice a day and fighting a few times a year.
