How does Boxing compare to MMA?

ROY JONES JR: Not only do we have to learn the respect for the game, but we have to have respect for hand-to-hand combat because that is very similar to going to war to me. We have soldiers over there now that are fighting for our freedom and their lives are on the line. Every time a fighter goes into the ring to fight another fighter, his life is on the line whether it is MMA or boxing. Even though he is just boxing, his life is still on the line. To me, I just want to close that bridge that the two sports need to be against each other, because they don

^Did he say he was going to do MMA? He's promoting it and he can do what ever the fuck he wants he's Roy Jones.

In a boxing match to Anderson Silva? You have lost your goddamn mind.

Roy lost to Joe fucking Calzaghe. Silva cuts from 210 to make 185. Roy would be at a size disadvantage, reach disadvantage, speed disadvantage, endurance disadvantage, etc. His only edge would be boxing skill, but even that isn't so huge, because he relied so much on youthful athleticism for his career.

Oh Jesus Christ. I hope you're not comparing Silva to Joe. Love him or Hate him, Calzaghe is one of the best boxers in this era and probably the best super middleweight ever. Nothing Silva has done suggests he could hold a candle light to Roy in a boxing match.

Joe fuxking Calzaghe? you mean the guy who retired undefeated? Oh, yeah, so, ummm....what's your point? ANDERSON SILVA IS NO JOE CALZAGHE!!!!!!

seriously my only advice to you is to shut up and listen to the boxing gurus around here, of which I know I am not one, or fuck off. Fuck off back to the heavyweights forum.

You mean to tell me that you don't believe has that much boxing skill over Anderson fucking Silva? Wow....you are a fucking retard. Anderson Silva who has like two pro boxing fights? Seriously, kill yourself.

I had to copy and past this part cuz it is so incredibly stupid. " His only edge would be boxing skill, but even that isn't so huge"

Are you fucking serious?

James Toney and Chris Eubank >>>>>> Joe Calzaghe as far as super middleweights go.

No, don't bring up the 1997 match with Calzaghe and Eubank. It only proves how easy it is to exploit an aged champion, something Cal sure is great at.

ummm....you still haven't stated where Anderson belongs in regards to pro boxers. You think Anderson would beat James Toney?

anderson silva is no where even near roy's level. every advantage silva may have is nullified due to roy having superior skill. silva to calzaghe comparison? ridiculous. the only thing they have in common is their southpaw stance

Anderson would be a lower tier boxer at 200, maybe top 30. Against natural 175ers like Roy, he would be top 10 due to the size advantage alone.

Toney would beat Silva. He hasn't aged as badly as Roy. Silva might win a couple rounds, though.
