What do you guys think about rowing machines for conditioning?

When I was doing physio sessions due to a busted shoulder, he had me warm up on one before therapy. I sort of appreciated the difference from cycling/running, in that the upper body was being used alot more evenly with the lower.

No one seems to talk about it much on this forum however. Is the conditioning carryover into MA not as effective as the other types?

I love rowing and hit a PR of 1min 34 seconds on the 500/m yesterday. I think it has a great carryover to martial arts...it is just quality rowing machines cost much more then quality running shoes.

C2 rowers are fantastic. There is no other machine that works so many joints/muscles through such a long ROM. An excellent conditioning tool.

I'm gonna try add this into the conditioning toolkit as soon as the doc gives the all clear to train w/upper body again.

Great for high-intensity, low-impact aerobic and anaerobic (try a 4:00 Tabata after a 5:00 warm-up) training, while working your back, core, and arms. If you want to increase the demand on the legs, find a way to elevate the rear of the machine (the area where you're sitting at the end of each stroke/pull).

I will be using this machine a lot more! I often overlook this exercise because my favorite work out is the bench press. I want to get in a variety of workout for my muscles.
