Round 2 was close. Round 3 was close. Yet it's terrible judging that someone gave Jones both?

One very common sentiment here is that, no matter who they thought won the fight, people think it's absolutely absurd that anyone could give the fight to Jones 49-46. Heck, even though I thought Jones had won, when I heard that score, I assumed it was for Reyes.

But here's the thing. Despite no one believing Jones won four rounds, of the people that thought he won three of them, there's an unexpected split between whether it was round 2 or round 3. Even with the 48-47 judges, one gave Jones 2-4-5 and one gave him 3-4-5.

So even though no one thinks Jones won four rounds, when you think about it, it's actually not that surprising that a judge could have scored it that way. Strange, yes. Incompetent or corrupt? Not necessarily.

The two 48-47 judges had different rounds for Dominic so seems like soliz isn’t only one to get the rage of sherdog

It was 49-46 because championship rounds count double.
    5 round = 2x round 3

Rewatched it. Clearest rounds of the fight were rounds 1 to Reyes and 4 and 5 for jones. Not even close to a robbery.

I thought Reyes won three rounds.
I’m not outraged that someone thought he only won two.
    But one?

I think people would have been satisfied with a majority decision, that 49-46 was BS tho...

This version of Jones has mastered the art of winning decisions via confidence.

Texas has some major issues with their judges.

round 3 was not close, and you're supposed to score 10-10 if a round is a toss-up.

I had Jones winning rds 2,4&5 when watching last night and 3 was very close. So 49-46 isn’t that far off for me. When a dominant champion gets an opponent who has some success we tend to over state how well they did. I still think Mighty Mouse suffered this in his fight with Henry, I definitely had MM winning that one. I’d bet that most people of the watched last nights fight with no sound wouldn’t be as surprised with that score line.

    TS explaining logic to sherdog.
Since one judge gave Jones R2 and another gave him R3 it's not that weird that one judge gave him both. They were both quite close.
Simple, right? Not for most sherdog users.
No, 49-46 couldn't have been for Reyes because R4 and R5 were clearly Jones.

I saw jones hurt twice. One of those times close to finished had Reyes pursued it.

Rounds 2 and 3 werent a blow-out, but still clearly for Reyes.

Not only did he land more strikes per round, he also landed the harder strikes. To me there is no way that Jon won either the second or third round, barring some high level mental gymnastics.

This. The scoring in this fight reminds me a lot of GSP vs. Hendricks. Regardless of how you scored it, Jones was clearly the better fighter, like it or not. Reyes gave it his all though and deserves all the respect in the world for the effort.

Same. 2 and 3 could've gone either way.
