Why is he so negative in his fighting? It seems this was another fight where the game plan was to stop the other guy from fighting instead of actually taking charge and try to win the fight. Its all good to be tactical in fights, but he has become too tactical and forgot about actually doing damage and is all about cancelling the other guy

Maybe he's always been overrated?

because he isn't fighting a lw but a top 10 legit ww

No idea if this is correct, but in between rd1 and 2, you could hear him tell his corner "my hand..." something before the audio cut out.

In addition he pretty much only threw elbows with his right, very few punches.

Soooooo, I think he may have broken his hand rd1. Would also make some sense as to why he wasnt at the post fight presser if he went to get his hand looked at.

Rory definitely laid an egg tonight. I'm a huge Ellenberger fan and I most definitely felt Jake shared in the blame because he didn't do anything about it, but Robbie was willing to take some chances and it paid off.

Rory was out classing him without much trouble is is clearly the more rounded fighter. That was his gig to lose and he let it walk out the door because he didn't put anything on Robbie and eventually it cost him a round.

He's not a bad fighter, just overrated.

He was worried about Lawler's power, was reluctant to open up, and then got beat up in round 3.

All there is to it.

Because he is only trying to do just enough to win, and not take chances.

how do you explain the Ellenburger fight then?

Yeah but even that fight when he realised he was better than Jake, he approached with just doing enough to get the W. And he wanted the same type of fight tonight. Its the approach of doing just about enough to get the W that annoys me

Lawler matches up against Rory almost perfectly, good TDD, good kicks and bigger than 168 pounds. Rory is a top 5 WW, but needs to reevaluate his game planning.

He's just not as good as this "OMG YOUNG FIGHTER" Hypetrain wants him to be...yet.
WHo knows where he'll be in a few years.

The Ellenberger fight was a big win for him, but it was not a definitive performance. Tonight he fought like he was already winning, and it bit him in the ass.

Maybe....But most of the time he avoiding the fight and just try to stay on the outside and steal points with jabs. Maybe its his coaches fault?

True, but he did try harder in the third. I believe he ran into someone who wasn't daunted to engage with him. After he tasted some of Robbie's power I think it changed his overall gameplan.

This. He looked clueless what to do after taking heavy shots from robbie

props to him for not folding-but think Robbie let him off the hook because he was slightly tired

Disagree. Give some credit to Robbie. Perhaps he forced rory out if his gameplan with his TDD, kicks, and punches?

He needs to learn how to fight when things get sloppy and wild. Has no tenacity.
