I think he knew where he was, Dana was just exaggerating. Rory dropped to the ground because that last shot disintegrated his nose. For that milisecond after the punch he said to himself "oh fcuk, it may be good for my health to just call it a day here" then he went to the ground. He could of kept fighting, but that was probably sooooo painful and freaky to feel like his nose was a bag of crunchy bits.
