135 pounds is probably the average female size meaning it allows the majority of women to compete?

Women don't have many avenues for professional sport, so where are they going to go?

    Obviously MMA?

So the talent pool at 135 must be huge, it's just Ronda happens to be the GOAT female fighter?

We are watching what it was like to see Fedor blast through the best HW in the world 10 years ago right here?

But I suspect Rousey retires before her abilities dip like Fedor and her mystique will remain as the greatest fighter that ever lived?

    Have you seen women's tennis?

Way more athletic and skilled talent pool.

You know, people that actually grew up doing that sport instead of starting 4 years ago to get in shape.

Rousey beating soccer moms under 1 minute is basically like Royce Gracie beating clueless cans at UFC 1.

That was impressive back in 1993, fans weren't educated and didn't know most of these guys had no technique, were bar brawlers and couldn't fight for shit. These days, fans have seen 20years+ of MMA and they notice the lack of skill and talent in WMMA. I'm mildy impressed by a girl who beats soccer moms who trained MMA for 2 years and can't even throw a straight, can't throw a jab and can't defend a TD properly, sorry.

She's the biggest fish in a very very very shallow pond

    Best athletes? Not even close.

Except by UFC 5 Shamrock learned how to not get subbed by Royce. Ronda has been beating chicks in MMA for 4 years and she is more dominant now than ever. The Royce comparison is dumb.

Shamrock was also a lot larger/more powerful than Royce. Ronda is the most physically dominant fighter in her class, in addition to being the most skilled.

Ronda is fighting the best fighters possible.
These are the best fighters, as well as athletes, that you can find with $20,000 for 6 months of work. Hell, even $100,000 for 6 months of work won't bring in elite talent.
WMMA was introduced into the UFC solely because of the potential seen in Ronda.

As for sports like tennis, it's completely different. It's a very people-friendly game, it's a great activity for kids, it's something you can play for your entire life against anyone of any age, it's a social activity for basically anyone, and it's watched by millions more than a WMMA fight. If things don't work out and you don't win Grand Slam titles, well, presumably you were finishing HS and college while playing on the team...
You won't get talents like Serena in WMMA for such little money.

Only Serena is like that. A beast.

And she beats the rest like Ronda beats the UFC women.

Are you saying only Serena can give Ronda trouble?

Female tennis is very deep talent wise and there are many impressive athletes.

What do you mean "only Serena is like that"?

She's fighting the best fighters. She's not fighting the best athletes in the world, but then again neither is anyone in MMA

???... Or you know.... Tennis, Track & Field's 20 events, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Basketball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball...

So you have the female athletes wanting to do combat sports, who are divided between martial arts, boxing, kick boxing, fencing and so on

Except, you know, fedor's beaten 3 people in the current top 10.

    You're kind of an idiot.

    This.

It also applies to MMA in general. The world's best athletes aren't competing in MMA because so many other sports are so much more lucrative and/or don't involve being punched in the face for a living. NBA, NFL, NHL, Soccer, Tennis, Golf, etc, etc.

That doesn't mean there aren't some very good athletes in MMA, and that a few of them aren't world class athletes, but on average the level of athlete is markedly lower than in many other sports.

    "Female Athlete"

    Kind of an oxymoron there.

Small pool of girls at 135. Give it time and there will be multiple Rouseys and they'll cancel each other out leaving Ronda w/ this bullshit aura from beating up shitty opposition.

Oh no this would be like the end of the universe because they'd have to just keep fighting each other forever and no one would be able to be defeated because they are such unstoppable athletes the likes of which we have never seen before.
