Yoel's and his coaches strategy and fighting IQ are incredible.
He knew Rockhold's chin and boxing are questionable on the other hand his kicks, stamina and wrestling are top notch, so he had a perfect plan:
Neutralized Rockholds kicks by checking them and taking out his lead leg in the first
While always keeping his hands up allowed Luke to become somewhat confident with his jab in the second
Stayed away from the wrestling against a bigger and less susceptible to fatigue fighter.
I think he planned to KO him early in the second and while it didn't worked, he adjusted by staying in guard and waiting till his muscles get back to normal.
Also those little things that let him rest a bit more - like being too wet and moving forward between the rounds so the referee wasted time by sending him back to fences. Some will say this is dirty, I call it a perfect plan.
