Hey guys, need a quick answer... I think I've got a cold sore ... felt it a few hours ago, and sure enough theres a little nasty fluid blister on my top lip.

Is it inconsiderate to be rolling with one? Fast answers appreciated. Class starts soon-ish.

Just barely returned to judo on monday, after a few month hiatus..this sucks.

personally i wouldnt - but some guys may be ok with it. you could just tell your instructor and ask what he thinks

i would still go - going to class and watching is better than not going at all. if your class conditions you can do that and just watch the rolling. it only spreads through contact so it isn't like sitting there is going to spread it - just make sure you don't touch it at all

You should not roll. Are you sure you get cold sores? Cold sores are a herpes strain which is highly contagious. If you roll with others, it'll be extremely likely that anyone you come in contact with would most likely contract the virus.

I'm not even sure if this is a cold sore. But I'm led to believe it is -- Ive had problems with my lips as far back as I can remember.. anytime I accidently bite or cut them or whatever... they tend to flare up. Or sometimes I just magically wake up and have a fat lip..

Right now its that same thing. I vaguely recall biting my lip earlier, and now I have this blister that looks like its got fluid in it. And it tingles. I know your not doctors but just wanted a genernal consensus. Thanks for the replies.

I got 20 min until class... *thinking*

hah.. I was just waiting for the OT style "your nasty /what dirty cocks have you been suckin" type comments to begin.

Anyways looks like im not gonna go. I'll talk to my coach and see what he says about it. For future reference I did find this: AHMF: Non-sexual transmission of herpes

    Activity Risk How and why?

Wrestling with a cold sore present
    Moderate to high
Because of the close, firm contact during wrestling, the virus could easily be rubbed directly from the lips of one wrestler to the face, shoulders, or arms of another. Wrestlers are usually prohibited from competing when they have active cold sores.

...well on the positive side... at least I get to watch TUF. *shrugs*

    :/

I would mention it out loud in front of the whole class and not feel the least bit bad about it!

You could pass on to some INNOCENT person a LIFELONG VIRUS!

How could you even CONSIDER rolling? Very disrespectful!

I personally wouldn't want to roll with someone that had it, or if I had it I wouldn't roll; but I would STILL go to class to watch.

I actually had a related question, I was wondering if I should roll with a medium to serious case of lepracy coming on?

It's not that bad I only feel a slight tingling as the skin on my entire left arm came off. My nose has fallen off as well but I don't need that to roll...

As has already been mentioned, gross, highly contagious, don't roll.

I personally would not want to roll with someone who had a herpes outbreak.

If another guy in your class had a cold sore on his face would you be the first in line to roll with him considering how they are contagious ?

Why do you have at least two threads on the same topic? Its common sense not to roll when you have any type of infectious disease/illness/contagion. I sense a troll. Mods need to send you a warning or outright ban.

Why would you ever train with that? What good could come out of it. Watch class and learn something without infecting others.
