Social Rolling Stone's 'Brown Sugar'....racist! Cancelled!!!

That's definitely a song I mumble sang.

Blah blah blah, BROWN SUGAR, blah blah....

I never read the lyrics before. They are freaking hard core! If you just read the lyrics I can see how people would think it's racists. You have to dig a little deeper then just the lyrics though. You can take any song, poem, written word and put your own opinions and thought into it. Just because you wrote something like "Four Dead in Ohio" doesn't mean you endorse killing college students.

It sounds like the Stones wrote it to show how terrible the slave trade was and how it was for women. I personally don't think they were singing the praises of slavery and rape.

Yeah, because I was the one that came into this topic to cry about the Stones deciding to not play a song at live shows. Oh wait, that was you.
shut the fuck up.
how do you like your eggs? omelet or sunny side up?

I've always assumed rock music just talked nonsense and never paid attention to the lyrics. Just trying to catch a crunchy riff and smooth melody

For real, man.

We must be in the minority, because I’m always hearing people all “yo dat shit is deep son.”

Literally a song about how horrible slavery was not just for the field workers, but how the slave owners would rape the young slave girls as well

[Verse 1]
Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in the market down in New Orleans
Scarred old slaver knows he's doing alright
Hear him whip the women just around midnight

[Chorus]
Brown sugar, how come you taste so good? Uh huh
Brown sugar, just like a young girl should, uh huh, oh (Woo)

[Verse 2]
Drums beating, cold English blood runs hot
Lady of the house wonderin' when it's gonna stop
House boy knows that he's doing alright
You shoulda heard 'em just around midnight

[Chorus]
Brown sugar, how come you taste so good now?
Brown sugar, just like a young girl should now (Yeah)

[Chorus]
Ah, get on, brown sugar, how come you taste so good?
Ah, got me craving the, the brown sugar
Just like a black girl should, yeah

[Verse 3]
Ah, and I bet your mama was a tent show queen
And all her boyfriends were sweet sixteen

I'm no schoolboy, but I know what I like
You shoulda heard me just around midnight

Lyrics I can see how some think it's like, praising fucking black slave girls?

But I feel like that's misinterpreting the art on a dark subject

I don't know how the songs lyrics are about slavery? I thought that it was maybe about a man crushing on a women of color.

Were the lyrics about the slaver whipping the cotton field bound women that arrived in New Orleans on slave ships from the Gold Coast in the very first verse a little too subtle for you?

Racist syrup was defeated and now this . In history books we will look so brave..
Oh they going after rap lyrics yet ? Or they get a pass

The band chose to retire the song. Can you still buy it? Yes? Then how has it been canceled?
They don't dare to play it anymore because someone will call them racist.
You and I both know what this is.

To be completely honest I never could really tell what the hell they were singing in much of the song. Pretty much just "duh duh duh duh duh brown sugar. How come you taste so good."

Never looked up the lyrics until now.

Great, now some liberal with extreme mental illness can sleep at night

I can't believe Keith Richards cancelled his own song. Libs have no shame at all, no shame. They're even cancelling themselves! What a world

Ok, ok, ok.... Just don't cancel Cherry Pie.. Not sure what I'll do.... lol

Dirty, rotten, filthy, stinkin'
She's my cherry pie
Cool drink of water, such a sweet surprise
Tastes so good, makes a grown man cry
Sweet Cherry Pie, yeah

Well, swingin' on the front porch, swingin' on the lawn
Swingin' where we want 'cause there ain't nobody home
Swingin' to the left and swingin' to the right
If I think about baseball, I'll swing all night, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Swingin' in the living room, swingin' in the kitchen
Most folks don't 'cause they're too busy bitchin'
Swingin' in there 'cause she wanted me to feed her
So I mixed up the batter and she licked the beater
I scream, you scream, we all scream for her
Don't even try 'cause you can't ignore her

What a load of bollocks! <45><45>

It's a damn classic! Why did no fuckin body give a damn about it for the past 50 years?

That whole SJW no fun police can fuck right off!

In all fairness, it's a sleazy song regardless of whether its a classic or not and the Stones are hit and miss with their music.

Verse 2 makes me think the song is about a slave banging the headmaster's wife. I also never listen to the lyrics of songs, just the beat.
