And wow do I have a new level of respect for top level BJJ practitioners. It's also a ton of fun. I'd like to be able to do it more often but being a strength athlete I can't really afford to be zapped all the time.

Its a totally different experience than all the years of MT I did. When something goes wrong sparring, it sucks. Alot. A whole lot.

With BJJ I didn't even mind getting tapped the very first time I rolled. I just tried to figure out what went wrong. The next time I somehow got an armbar from the back. Lots of fun.

Sorry for the mostly meaningless post I just wanted to share my new found appreciation for the ground game!

Welcome to the club :) Glad you liked it. Today I had one of those "I-suck-ass-days" hehe :) Didn't tap out anyone at the gym :(

You'll have those days too :)

No excuses! I'm a competitive power lifter and I still grapple and and muay thai.

Too many smilies.

And good to hear TS, keep it up.

Dude don't take this the wrong way but Olympic Weightlifting is an entirely different animal than powerlifting. I have to squat, pull, and bench AFTER my snatch and c&j work that day. If I was only doing the three traditional slow movements I'd be able to stay alot fresher for other pursuits. On top of that I just finished 6 weeks of hard training for a national strongman lightweight qualifier only to be hospitalized the week before the show. Now I have to wait until next year. I can assure you, I push about as hard as a person can be expected to. Oh and on top of that I have to coach my team.

Unless I want to order some horse meat I have to pick one or the other. :icon_sad:

Thanks guy. I am going to try and get it in twice a week. It really is very enjoyable and I don't intend to be competitive with it so that should be plenty. And they have a good drop-in policy.

It's crazy to feel the crushing power of the instructor when he's demonstrating. Noooo interest in rolling with a black belt, haha.

The higher the rank, the more you may learn from rolling. Try to pair up with higher ranked guys. Don't worry about winning, and learn.

TS congrats on making the jump!

Dude, I do as well, but man it is rough sometimes. How do you recover?
