I know Dan did a tutorial on the Roger Gracie arm drag from the closed guard, but what is the appropriate defense to this move. I've watched Roger hit this on Bastos, Comprido, and lots of others. Once you get the arm across, is it pretty much over? I know it's best not to let anyone get your arm that far across, but once there, what should you be looking to do? Any good counters/defenses? Thanks.

I watched the arm drag a couple of times and it really looks terrible to recover from. The best you can do is grab one sleeve on the side the arm is being dragged to to try to prevent the transition to the back than bring up one knee and try to posture up really high as you pull the arm back to center. With the arm that far over it would take a enormous effort to get it back although it can be done.

Tackle them, beat them up. You will be ready

Controlling his other arm and pinning it to the mat can help buy you some time, it will make it harder for him to take your back or sweep you. But you really need to use your other arm to make space, posture up, break his grip and rip your trapped arm free. Don't lean in either direction, or he will sweep you. Keep a solid base, push his chest down with your free hand, and push yourself straight back and upward.

He got the position by dragging your arm across his body, and you need to move it back to a neutral position.

I agree that controlling the arm the did the arm drag is the best way to not get the back taken. After that look for the right time to circle the head back under the armpit. You have to be careful to avoid this sweep too so dont drive your weight into him.
