Fighters would rather give up a small piece of their purse than go through hell cutting those last few pounds. The trend will continue. Punishments aren't harsh enough for missing weight.

Exactly. It sets a bad precedent if they are not punished severely. You could just relax, not drain yourself, cop the fine and then still fight for the title. Meanwhile opponent is working his arse off to make weight and at a disadvantage come fight night.

Agreed, it would be quite easy for UFC to fix too. Just have a rule that you are illegible to fight for title if you missed weight in previous fight. And fines should be scaled by how much you miss weight by, maybe something 20% per lb, miss weight by 2lbs you forfeit 40%, 3lbs 60% etc. At the moment you might as well miss weight by 4lbs rather than 1lbs as the punishment is the same.

He won 2 decisions against an overhyped bodybuilder with gas tank and striking range issues.

He did not fight Playboy-Wonderboy(Rockhold), Still-My-Wonderboy(Weidman) or against Military-Cardio-Bisping. 3 very large fighters in the division who make weight. Can at least attempt long range attacks for 2 or 3 rounds.

It's ironic because where he is now even in promotability is because of B-side Romero.

Romero had a small orbital fracture (courtesy of Bobby Knuckles) regardless... he got it fixed (surgery) and by all accounts is already back in the gym.

whereas Whittaker needs 9-10 months to recover from a Type II concussion.
