Solid Toothed Whittaker avoids the face crank and drags Khamzat into deeper waters where he gets the victory. Also, let this be a lesson to all serious fighters. If you have no teeth, your teeth cannot get pushed in. Go the extra mile and have them all pulled, you can always replace them later.

I mean I wouldn't want my teeth getting fucked up either. The face crank shit is just barbarism. But I guess it's the penalty for tucking your chin to defend a RNC
It's pretty common in Jiu-Jitsu nowadays, they call it a mandible choke. It's what Nicky Rod hits on basically everybody once he gets to the back.

The way I look at it is just his pre-existing injury being a big liability you know. If a face crank can do that, it can just keep happening and you obviously cannot continue with an injury like that
Robert kinda alluded that he had some pre existing issues with his teeth.

He said that his is a good excuse to finally get his teeth fixed.

I wonder if he has been dealing with issues with his teeth for awhile

From looking at some of his mouth guards, (unless I'm getting fooled in sponsored / training posts about guards he doesn't actually use in the octagon) then he only uses a top and not a double. Not sure how much it helps with a squeeze like Khamzat did, but it might helped with the DDP situation, which could have, in turn, made them less weak here.

For the love of god, Bobbert, that's a hell of a vulnerability to not protect more

No idea why he wasn't using it already.

"Ah man, sometimes my teeth get pushed in."
"Well, do you wanna wear something in front of them to protect them?"
"Nope"

” I didn’t even had a moment to the head or anything.”

What the hell does that even mean
Missed a word, but he covered in the article that was also in the post

"His forearm went straight on the bottom tooth, I didn't have a moment to turn the head or anything."

He had to get teeth surgery one week before Aliskerov fight

“A few fights back, Rob got cracked and his lower teeth moved a bit and he was going to have surgery to fix that. But instead, he decided to get it done later. But the abscess popped up out of nowhere.”

It means he has has missing and loose teeth in his lower jaw for years now and because of that he didn't have time to turn his head before his teeth got pushed in and he tapped from the pain. He should finally get his teeth fixed and should be less vulnerable to this happening with a full set of teeth.

If you have watched any of the countdown shows he has been missing a bunch of teeth in the front of his lower jaw for years now.

I don't understand how people are constantly so unprepared for Khamzats attack. I mean he's just diving for those takedown atleast tty to fight back with a choke or something.

Also everyone keeps saying "just survive the first rounds and he's toast!!"

Well we've seen multiple former champions and title contenders try that and it hasn't worked out yet. I think someone has got to fight back in round 1 better to beat him. Nobody is going to have any energy left either after surviving his attack.

You need position to achieve a choke and Khamzat is a master of positional grappling and winning scrambles. You cannot just "throw" a choke from anywhere. The only guy who really had any degree of success making Khamzat think twice with his bottom game was Burns and well, yeah. No surprise there considering it was a massive step up in competition for a fairly green Khamzat against a multiple-time submission grappling world medalist who also survived on the ground underneath Maia before outscrambling and knocking him out.

Robert at one point tried to secure a front headlock on Khamzat as I recall and immediately lost it. What you're saying isn't as easy as you're making it out to be. At best with your "lol just fight back in Rd 1 strategy" people can just go out there like Masvidal with an early knee and sure that might work, but I'm willing to bet that nine times out of ten it just ends with an easier takedown for Khamzat. Plus if even one person gets close trying that on him, he and his team would likely gameplan around it in future bouts.

As for the energy disparity, that really depends on the fighter. Some guys wilt under adversity and even if they did survive to the championship rounds would come out with nothing left to punish Khamzat. But other guys are quite the opposite. Considering Khamzat is an obvious quick-starter who fights at a high pace with well-publicized respiratory issues and has slowed down somewhat in previous fights that went late, I don't blame guys and their teams for thinking that their best approach is to rely on staying power.
