I think this is a dumb match up, kos is just going to go in with the daley gameplan and ud robbie. I could be wrong, but i just think he's a bad matchup especially for robbies first fight at welterweight in years. they should have put robbie in with a matt brown/thiago alves kind of fighter to see how he does at ww and to make it exciting.

What do you guys think of the match up?

Kos wins a fairly easy UD but after the Manhoef fight I never count out Lawler anymore.

Just shows that Joe Silva has actually lost his mind, horrible match up for Lawler.

And why should Joe Silva make favorable match ups for one fighter over the other?

I feel like Lawler vs Leben was a fight that was meant to happen. I wish Lawler would move up to middleweight again. THat would be a much more competitive and fin fight

maybe if robbie had stayed at welterweight his whole career, it would be a little more even but he hasn't fought at welterweight in a few years. i just think they're feeding kos a named fighter.

To have more even matched and competitive fights, which are usually more entertaining. Also to establish legitimate rankings. It would be a huge win for Robbie, but would do literally nothing for Koscheck

I agree, but Hughes/Alves is still a bad matchup. Give him someone young Hathaway or Story.

I really hope he's not just one and done

Lawler Vs Leben would have been fucking epic.

Joe Silva has let us down.

Kos will wrestle fuck Robbie to a UD I fear.

I hope Kos stands with him. Lawler was my first fave fighter back in the day. I remember when he dropped Tiki, I thought he was the shit!

Seems like a pretty easy win for Kos. Lawler always has a punchers chance though.

Rankings don't (and will never) mean anything so that argument is bleh...

They don't fight on paper. Anything can happen in there

    Right Paulo?

It does seem strange. Lawler vs. a striker would have been a guaranteed exciting fight, and a great way to introduce him to new fans who don't know who he is.

Manhoef is a 100% stand up fighter with absolutely no ground game so Lawler didn't have any worries about being grounded. Fair enough you can't count Lawler out vs a stand up fighter, but Kos brings a different element and if Lawler gets put on his back in any round he's not getting back up.

Except that Robbie actually has take down defense and a bit of wrestling unlike Daley.

I pretty much agree with you TS - this is a bad matchup for Robbie.

Like you say, he should have been paired with an exciting striker such as Matt Brown or Thiago Alves.

I think Lawler vs Neer would have been about right...

Yes they do. Not as much as they should, but they do matter. Not saying they fight on paper, just that to adjust people through rankings it would be more effective if they fought in a fight that mattered in the scheme of the division.

They also might be risking a guy who could put on some great fights (and finishes) against a top wrestler that can take him down at will. Just seems to make more sense entertainment and ranking wise

Yeah pretty easily. Definitely has more experience in that department that Daley, but if Larkin can easily take him down for a decision Koscheck should be able to
