Matt Brown, Carlos Condit, Johny Hendricks, Jake Ellenberger, Josh Kos, Rory McDonald (first fight) all got him down

Why the hell wouldn't Maia?

but could they keep him down doe?

No. Im sure Maia can

So the best positional BJJ guy in that division might be able to utilize his positioning and top game to keep him on the ground?

You don't say...

I guess that means his TDD must be horrid, right? Lol.

Derp.

Whens the human backpack fighting again? I want to make sure I dont miss that.

Ryan Hall too....cant wait 4 that shit.

Because getting punched in the face by Robbie Lawler hurts.

Condit didnt take him down, he knocked him down.

Rory: 0/4 in TDs 2nd fight
Hendricks: 5/17 in the 2nd fight,
Brown: 2/8 in TDs

so his last 3 opponents who took him down were 7/29 in attempts and Hendricks is prolly the best wrestler in the division and him and Rory are top 5 in the division when it comes to being taichydown artists

The Robbie from the Kos/1st Rory fights didnt have near the TDD he does now. And Robbie its not just TDD he has a nasty butterfly and hes preventing guys like Rory, Kos and Hendricks from doing anything to him after he got taken down.

Demian can take him down but this is a stupid thread. I guess Aldos TDD is overrated to u too then? Got taken down by Chad, Lamas, Frankie, Florian, Hominick lol. Who doesnt have overrated TDD from that retarded logic

if you watch the robbie from the sf days, he improved a lot. You can take him down? yes, but the thing is, you can keep him there all the time? to this moment, no one could in his run

Why the hell wouldn't Maia?
Mark Munoz stopped all of Maia's 7 take-down attempts when they fought and took Maia down thrice
Lawler has much better TDD than Munoz and he's a better fighter overall

Didn't Maia take down Rory? How did that work out for him?

You should try actually watching the fights.

Robbie made some significant improvements after the first Hendricks fight, his timing and agility on defending the take-downs in .gifs here are on point
The TS is pretty ignorant to think that his TDD is overrated

I remember this picture from the first fight, Rory tries to land a single leg, Robbie refuses to go down, balances on one leg and smashes Rory with left hands lol

Even in Robbie's Strikeforce days, he did really well against the likes of Jacare & Kennedy, considering he didn't spar or train properly when he met two of the worlds most elite grapplers/wrestlers. Just look at how Bisping faired against Kennedy, he was dominated. Lawler did better than most compared to the competition that faced those two in the UFC...

He came very close to knocking Jacare out, damn near had him out following that knee. Taking rounds from Jacare and Tim is impressive two top 5 MWs IMO.

Why the hell wouldn't Maia?

Rory Mac (second fight) couldnt.

Why the hell could Maia?

So what you're saying is, it's not impenetrable? Well, no shit.

Could Maia take Lawler down and submit him? Yes, obviously. However, if Maia misses a TD, he's going to pay for it dearly.

Personally, I give Lawler a better chance of defending one of Maia's TD's, than I do of Maia being able to take one of Lawler's furious onslaughts, which would likely come directly after a failed TD.

Mark Munoz is also a former light-heavyweight and one of the best wrestlers at MW at the time. No shame in being taken down by that guy. Maia is not the best wrestler but IF he gets you down you're doomed, he's just so good on top.

That said, seeing how he struggled with Rory I feel he'll struggle with Lawler. I think Lawler is just to atletic for Maia to beat.

Maia would get Lawler down especially early but he doesnt have the cardio to keep it up for the 5 rounds. Unless he submits Lawler in the first 2 rounds I don't see Maia surviving.
