Rob Font vs. Adrian Yanez in the works for April 8 UFC event

A striking showcase in the UFC’s bantamweight division is targeted for April.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Rob Font and Adrian Yanez is in the works for the UFC’s event on April 8 at a location and yet to be announced. Contracts have yet to be signed, but the bout is close to being finalized.

Font will look to get back in the win column after losses to José Aldo and Marlon Vera in his past two outings. Prior to that, the No. 7 ranked bantamweight in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings racked up four straight wins over Cody Garbrandt, Marlon Moraes, Ricky Simón, and current Bellator champ Sergio Pettis. The New England Cartel standout is slated to make his first appearance in just under a year.

Yanez is one of the division’s most exciting up and comers, as he enters his highest profile matchup with nine straight victories — including a 5-0 start to his octagon tenure. Like Font, the 29-year-old competed just once in 2022, and finished Tony Kelley in his home state of Texas at UFC Austin in the first round.

Great matchup. Yanez has looked amazing and they have been bringing him up pretty slowly. This would be a great test for Yanez to see if he's really ready for the top 10. This is also a step down (rankings wise) for Font so we'll see if he can get back on track.

I was just about to make a thread about Yanez and how he needs a big step up in competition and looks like this is it.

Great news. A young contender facing the old ones. Hopefully Yanez wins. I can see him climb further than Font, would be a shame if he lose this one.

Going with my boy Adrian here. Such a sick fight.

Don't want to jinx my boy, but Raufeon Stots brought up something interesting on Ariel's Show. He says he wasn't as prepared as he could be for his last fight against Danny Sabetelo because the grappling just isn't there at there camp. He says he would've got the finish if he was more prepared in that aspect.

Dots trains with the team run by Adrian Yanez after their coach suddenly passed away. Something Don't could possibly exploit with his experience. Yanez is the better boxer though.

Guess Font is officially the guy upcoming dudes are pitted against to see if they're legit

Font is good, not great. Still, he's a real test for a surging Yanez who needs an opportunity to validate his hype against a proven opponent that will test him and not fold easily. I think Font is more talented overall, but Yanez has quick hands and Rob has taken a ton of punishment his last few fights. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rob win with a smart gameplan, good jab and some dirty boxing inside with clinch work, nor would I be if Yanez clipped him and got him out of there early or caught him with a bomb. Fun fight which will tell us a lot about the future of both. Props to Rob for fighting down the rankings.

Great fight and how matchmaking should be. Font lost twice to top of the division, should have to defend his spot.

Great match up! Nice to see Yanez get a step up. One of my fav prospects in the UFC right now.

font gonna break out the singlet for this one? yanez has the best offensive boxing in MMA.
