Why would you be surprised? Gogoplata is a Portuguese word.
Where in this 49 minute video is it?
its in the second match. I thought gogaplata was a name given by Eddie Bravo and his gang. I am not saying he invented it, just that he or his guys named the technique.
I guess i shouldn't be too surprised as they call the fifty fifity, the fifty fifty.
Eddie Bravo got the Gogoplata from Nino Schembri.
If that's the anem of teh move, what else would one call it?
When I was in Brazil many techniques and positions had different names or no names at all.
I always thought that Nino invented the move but Eddie gave it a name. I guess I was the wrong.
I remember almost no one knowing who many of the foreign grapplers are. People were using the words fifty fifty but had no idea who Ryan Hall was. I remember hearing about Leo Vieira asking who Ryan Hall was before he fought him in the ADCC.
I very much remember Nino Schembri referring to the gogo as a gogo wayyyyyy before Bravo started to really push the move.
Of course, he actually wins the match via armbar.
That fight for the gogoplata was ugly, really rough looking. Grinding on the guy's face, all that stuff. Legal, and perfectly fine in my book, but real nasty looking. And uncomfortable for both.
At that level, most of the competitors would do anything to win as long as its legal.
Hey, I'm not saying he shouldn't have done it. I'm just saying it looked uncomfortable as hell, torquing your leg like that. And for the other guy, having the hin grind across your face and tucking your chin to fight it, while your opponent is grabbing your jaw with his had trying to pry it up.
And after all that it was the armbar that got him.
Separate names with a comma.
