I know he has still been training. But stay with me here during Conor's run to the top he was active as f**k. He showcased excellent timing and distance control. If he gets the fight against Khabib I think his time off is a factor to consider. Haven't seen it brought up really. Or does he do enough full contact sparring to where he will step in just as sharp?(For example some guys like Till seem to spar full speed and there are obvious negatives but probably helps keep him sharp)

I see hate threads and the usual comments on his bad cardio. But haven't seen any one discuss his long absence from the octagon.

Ring rust is a myth

For which fighter?

Ring rust is in your head, as Dom Cruz proved and Korean Zombie proved.

Ring rust only affects low level fighters and those who are mentally weak not someone of Conor's caliber.

i joke about conor being some lazy cokeheaded retard, but in reality he has likely been training this entire time. he's been to the show a couple times and it's doubtful he will have the proverbial ring rust.

Hmmm I think he’s got his timing and living in the moment in the octagon... he rises to the occasion... he did take some time off when he tore his acl and looked like he never left when he got back in... now I do see where you’re coming from tho 2 years is a long time to be out for

It hasn't even been a year since he last fought. It was in boxing, yes. But he still had to train 6 months for it. Technically speaking he hasn't even had a year off.

Khabib The Mauler does not care about ring rust.

I'm sure some nuthuggers will point to it if he loses but it's total bullshit.

Came to say Ring Rust is just a myth and give examples...but I see others have done well in that already.

I see Conor fanboys are already lining up excuses though. That's cute.

He should take a warm up fight. It doesn't even have to be an MMA fight, just a grappling match or something to get himself warmed up to competition again.

It's not an excuse any more than not training for a fight is. He was healthy and ran from defending his title for two years. It's on him if it affects him.

Not training for a fight? As if he wouldn't get to train if he comes back now? C'mon man...

If he is half as great as he and his fanboys claim him to be, a few years off will do "nuttin" to his performance.

Khabib only fights like once every 2 years and he always seems fine.

No, I mean a fighter who doesn't train would be considered lazy and we would fault them for it. A fighter who relies on timing who chooses not to fight and loses that timing because of it should be considered at fault for that diminishing skill as well.

Look at the Aldo or Alvarez fights: Conor is the rare type that performs greater with more pressure. He even looked fantastic vs May and getting stopped in the tenth is nothing to sneeze at.

The real question is: how will Khabib perform at the McGregor show. World class champions mentally break under those lights on the biggest stage they will ever be on. Heck, Conor weigh ins are bigger than anything they have ever been involved in. Khabib also has to cut to 155.0, and what are the implications of that, vs a fighter that is not Al?

Ohh yeah, I see. I mean it would be his own fault, but he and his fanboys would no doubt twist it into an excuse for losing. "If he had been active he would have decapitated him..." as if Khabib forced Conor to be inactive.

Khabib is a mauler who pressures opponents, he needs to be in shape for his gameplan and taking time off for injuries let's him heal. Conor is very reliant on timing for his style, and losing that by a fraction can be disastrous for a counter fighter.

Listen I’m not a fighter, so I really dunno, but I think it’s a mental thing. Some people succumb to it, others come back stronger.

Conor’s never been mentally weak. He should be fine

Ya he’s at least been in a competition I agree with you there but still will be over a year no matter what when he comes back and almost 2 years in the octagon
