I remember when he was fighting Thiago Alves and the UFC was really building him up. They gave him a little bit of airtime, UFC Primetime style. I remember watching as hew talked about his childhood and a bunch of weird shit that got him into fighting for a living. It seemed like they were building him as the next star. He looked like a serious force to be reckoned with and he went on to beat Thiago Alves which only solidified his reputation in the welterweight division.

Fast forward to one fight, and the walls come crashing down when he loses a short notice, main event fight with Charlie Brennamen of all fucking people. RIck Story had beaten Johnny Hendricks, Jake Ellenberger, and Thiago Alves at this point of his career but then he loses decisively to Brennamen. It seems like his whole career is laced with very impressive wins like Hendricks, Gunner Nelson, Alves, Saffedine is no joke either. But on the other hand he has these WTF losses. He is still a tough night out for anyone but it seems like his style never really evolved into dominating any particular area. In spite of this, his last few wins are fucking impressive.

He is basically one of the last people you want to fight, if you want to come out of the fight looking very good.

He has the potential to be on par or close to nearly everyone he fights, regardless of who it is.

He's been consistently inconsistent, alternating wins and losses for like 7 fights. But now he's on a 3 fight streak. Dude is only 31 but feels like he's been around forever.

He has had a weird career, lots of close decision wins and losses. Always been fun to watch is brute style though and his fight with Brian Foster was awesome

if Story can keep himself a little more active im sure she he will be making waves again he's a solid fighter and a definite top 10 in a division filled with sharks

I think he is the WW division dark horse. If he can put everything together I think he can be a contender.

Additionally, it could be just me, but he looks to be taking his conditioning more seriously than in the past. That's a good sign.

I think has putting it all together now.

After beating Nelson and Terec both by UD. . he deserves a top 5 imo

he is the Keith Jardine of the ww division

Jardine won Vs Griffin, Liddell,
loss vs Bonnar and Houston alexander...

those guy are the proof that mma math doesn't work ...

He is a very solid fighter, I hope he is clear on the injuries now. Story is very physically strong for WW, he can push around anyone at that weight class.

I thought he had beat Gastelum as well

Yeah, that was a close one.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, he is a gatekeeper or even one step below that. I like him but he is definitely not championship material.

I thought the Gastelum fight could have gone his way as well. But I think he is just finding his rhythm now and feeling comfortable with his fight style. He is a hell of a force and if he can keep it up we will for sure see him fighting in a main event on FOX against a top 5-10 or something

Maia strangled him like a boa constrictor

definitely inconsistent as hell. but good to see his confidence is still there if he can handle someone like saffiedine (i missed the fight the other night).

Yeah, that was a close one.

Which should be no insult to Story, he's a great talent. But WW is just so goddamn deep. Even without St. Pierre, the top 5, top 10 worldwide is so fucking hard to break into.

You're just as far off as he is. Story is certainly not a gatekeeper

I remember back when he posted on here asking who he should fight next He's a good fighter with some impressive wins

I thought he got screwed against Pyle. But damn WW is so stacked. Can't see him really ever cracking the top5-7.
