I strained some cartilege in my ribs last week and now I can't spar. I can drill and do most conditioning, however sparring is out, as I don't want to make it worse and then be out for months. I'm trying to be patient, but I hate not being able to train fully, especially now that things are starting to fall into place.

Watching just isn't as much fun as playing. I hope this heals quickly. :icon_sad:

Maybe it'll be like cycling in weightlifting and give your mind time to rest and process everything you've been learning. sure I''m trying to be positive, but a break could be good for you too. =)

that fucking ssux. I've been there, and I hope I never go back.

They do make decent rib protectors that can help, but you need to rest for at least a few days regardless.

When I first started my friend told me "This is not a gentle sport." :)

That said I'm not looking forward too hearing that popping in my ribs

I'm just getting over a bad rib injury, after 6.5 weeks I'm at about 95%.

Physiotherapy - I did the same thing to mine. Was out for 3 weeks, went to physio one week later I was good to go.

Seems to be standard. I broke/cracked a rib in Judo and the coach said 6 weeks until I was better....so did the doctor.....and they were right. :D

It took about 6 weeks for mine to get better, too...but being the dumbass i was, i just trained through the injury, and just as it was getting better i took a few good body shots to that rib(was practicing MMA) and BAM it was re injured for another 6 weeks...i trained through that too, i just made sure no one punched at my ribs before we fought.

I'm currently in the same boat. What kind of conditioning are you doing? I can't even touch weights. My injury is in my left back ribs, and any stress I put on my back makes my ribs hurt. I don't want to run yet, because I'm worried about jarring my back and re-injuring it. Anybody have any suggestions for conditioning I can do without putting any stress on my back/ribs?

yeah i still dont know whats wrong with my ribs, it was kinda sore for a couple of days but know it doesnt hurt too much. i was just trippin of the poping sound that i heard and felt. but i took a coupl of days off training, so im going back today to do some drills, i dont think im gonna roll hard for a cople of days, maybe even weeks...sucks now but atleast we hvae getting better to look foward too.

The thing is, I took about 5 days off from training, and when I did drills yesterday, I actually felt weaker and MORE vulnerable to further injury. So I gutted it out, did the drills I could do, added a few extra reps of whatever conditioning my teacher dished out, and came back for more today.

After a decent night's sleep, today I was pleased to see that I went through everything with less pain than yesterday. I felt good enough that I even went and rolled with another guy that is cool enough to work with me at my pace. About a minute into my first roll I told him not to hold back, and I ended up just fine. I rolled two more times---a little more out of breath than usual, but otherwise a good session.

I guess there's always a risk of further injury, but I just can't sit around and do nothing. Even if it's just neck exercises or a light jog or walk, I think some activity helps the body heal quicker.

I had cracked a couple ribs a half year ago and I kept on training for 2 months with zero recovery
then I took 2 weeks off and came back 100%
