Who came closer to winning vs Jones? And why? Talking performance not questionable judges scorecards.
Reyes did more but only cause he wasn't crippled mid fight. Santos was more badass tho. He was way older, a MW, one legged and still put his hands on Jones. He had a more 'fuck you' attitude. Both guys won. This is horseshit. There is no such thing as 'doing enough to win'. In basketball, football, pick a sport, the champ team doesn't start with a point difference. Only in MMA and Boxing you are expected to fight the champ with handicap, so judges can do their shady shit.
They both lost... But it says something about who Jones thought was more dangerous when you see how he fought so cautiously against a nearly crippled Santos for 5 rounds, and just simply pushed forward against Reyes, almost disregarding his striking.
I agree. You can’t leave these title fights to the judges a perfect example of this is GSP vs Hendricks.
Reyes DID do enough to win, you don't win rounds by walking forward if you're getting outstruck Santos fight was a lot closer
Cormier and Gus came closer than these two did or ever will. Santos may never walk again and some say Reyes is still running.
What would you do then, make all fights go until somebody is KO'd or tapes out? They did that in boxing in the late 1800's. Bareknuckle fighting until one man couldn't continue. Some fights went 70-80 rounds. Don't know how long a round was though.
